    Building identification (a challenge!)

    Afternoon all.

I'm sorting through a box of old gold charms and I've come across two I can't identify.

#1 looks like Westminster Abbey (quite a common charm) but they've give it an extra spire in the middle, which has stumped me! Any closer guesses?

#2 has me baffled. Blackpool Tower and Eiffel Tower are, again, common charms but this one is clearly neither one. Answers on a postcard!

I'd be most grateful for any help.

    Thanks to all.

No 2 could it be The Pharos (lighthouse) of Alexandria?
Maybe there was a 'Ancient wonders of the World' collection!

Hmm well this page suggests there are only three in England with three spires (which don't look like this one's low middle one), so that either means this church/cathedral is not in England and/or that the central one isn't classed as a spire.

It does look more French / Italian than say earlier Norman English, I thought it was Notre Dame but it seems that Cathedral hasn't spires on the West Towers.

That's Notre Dame with the middle spire that collapsed during the fire.

As Vulcan notes the towers don't have spires, unlike the model.

It's the best fit thus far, but they've taken a lot of artistic licence with trimming the wings further in than even the towers' widths:

I think you're right though and it has to be Cologne, given even the windows on the front match:

I would also say that the cathedral is Lichfield Cathedral. The other charm looks like the Peel Tower in Bury.

I said St Mary’s even though the third spire is higher in reality, as I was allowing the maker artistic licence 😉

However, Cologne does now look much more likely to be correct - I’m not seeing Lichfield from the front view. If it’s Lichfield, it’s very loose in its representation.

Cologne.... absolutely spot on, and it has a 333 hallmark (8 carat gold) which was only used in post-war Germany I believe.
That's fantastic chaps, thank you so much!!!

And the charm was bought in bolton. I'll tell you what that's a bloody good shout, looks spot on! My brother abseiled down peel Tower a few years ago, I might see if he wants that one.

I never fail to be surprised at the random knowledge on here. Thanks to you all.
