    Emma Raducanu

Is anyone else watching the unseeded, 18 year-old Brit, Emma Raducanu destroying all in her path at the US Open? (It's all live on Amazon Prime if you're interested). After her amazing run as a wildcard to the 4th round at Wimbledon, she has now reached the quarter-finals in New York after having to go via 3 rounds of qualifying. Here's her results so far:

Big test in the next round against Belinda Bencic - the Olympic god medallist. Looking forward to the match here!

She's demolished everyone in her path. A big star on the circuit over the next 15 years.

Let's hope so but it's way too early in her career for a statement like that.

Very promising, just hope the usual ridiculous weight of expectation from the British media don't spoil it for her.

I think she’s probably learned a lot from her experience at Wimbledon.

She certainly has the potential to be at the top of the game for the next ten years or so.

  6. #6
Absolutely thrilled for her she looks like she learned a lot from Wimbledon and is enjoying every moment
I play a lot of competitive tennis and can tell you sometmes the court is a lonely place when things are going against you.
Good luck to her in the next round.

Great to see a new rising star, I'm a bit uncomfortable with all the plaudits currently going her way as the force of tennis for the next 10 years and a cert for a Slam etc. She's a young girl making her way, let's not overburden her with pressure just yet

watching the QF now. First time I’ve seen her play live in the us open and she is the real deal. I kinda hope she doesn’t do a madness and win the whole thing, cos think it would do her more harm than good at this early stage - hype and expectation would go off the scale.

But she is defo the biggest thing to happen to British women’s tennis in, ever. A genuine superstar in the making. sponsors, fans, media are gonna go absolutely nuts over her in the next couple of years - just hope she continues to handle it like she has so far.

  15. #15
She’s basically set for life now with all the sponsors throwing themselves at her regardless of how she does now, well done.

Talent is obvious, so as is often the case, her career will be determined by her attitude and the advice received from those around her

Fantastic to see a nice and self-deprecating young person do so well. Apparently she went to a suburban state school near to where I grew up. Chuffed for her and the kids she is inspiring.

I got up to watch that and was well worth it. What an array of shots she has and superb control of her serve. Great chance on Saturday against an equally outstanding teenager. Probably gets harder in future as more eyes will be on her and coaches will scout her strengths and weaknesses more however she seems so level headed and calm and will clearly get better with age. Looks like a changing of the guard in women's tennis with the all-teen final. And great to see some talented youngsters coming through in the men's also.

  23. #23
Guaranteed at least $1,250,500 and walks away with $2,500,00 if she wins, of course this amount will be nothing compared to sponsors falling over themselves to sign her up.

Hopefully she wins, has good parents and a solid agent team behind her to keep her grounded (as hard as that will be now).

Good luck to her in the final.

Would be a phenomenal story if she wins at the weekend, as a qualifier. Fingers crossed! But it's already an amazing achievement.

I've just watched the 'Best Shots' on the BBC website having only just recalled she was playing in the early hours, UK time. What a tournament she's having and what a talent. Here's hoping she can go all the way. She comes across really well in interviews which will/has won her lots of fans.

Marvellous effort and really encouraging to see two such young emerging talents reaching a grand slam final so early in their careers.

The BBC are showing the highlights on Sunday but there is some talk of Amazon releasing the live match to a FTA broadcaster so keep an eye out as it may appear in the schedules. The match is around 9pm Saturday (UK time).

She is a young beautiful and very talented tennis player who has made the final of the US, however I am still struggling with the fact that this was the headline news story on the BBC and ITV.

Clearly a very slow news day in the world.

A potential SPOTY if she wins.

Brilliant Emma, even with a blood injury still went on to win in straight sets.
    She is the real deal.

Tbh in this instance I think it helped her. Fernandez was on a roll and looking to break. It gave Emma a reset moment and Fernandez obviously got annoyed about it. But them's the rules.

She's going to be a zillionnaire. Incredibly marketable, with the star combination of good looks, warm personality and a natural in front of the media. Talented also.

I just hope our sh*trag press doesn't start to destroy her after building her up. My cynical side thinks someone like The Sun already has some story lined up for when her star has waned a bit (and it will as more players on the tour will notice her and come up with strategies to counter her so she may get a run of losses as part of her wider progression)

News story here saying Channel 4 have paid Amazon to show it live tonight but not updated on C4 guide yet??

Bloody good of Amazon to give their C4 fee to British women’s tennis association, if true.

Do you think Emma will be flattered by the image C4 have used for her match? Hahaha.

Unfortunately a large minority of the Great British public are embarrassing us again. Channel 4’s announcement of the coverage has had a lot of comments from the usual bigots with the likes of “How is she British?” and “Stop kissing her arse, she’s Romanian.” One charming chap has suggested that anyone wanting to represent Britain should provide evidence that their parents and grandparents are all pure bred British, which sounds all very nice and Nazi!
It’s like the Euros all over again.

What a superb night, well done Emma. That has to be one of the greatest sports achievements I have seen. Expectations at the start were nil and she won, superb stuff. Sports personality of the year and Dame Emma without a doubt.

After saying I didn’t want her to go on and win it so soon, obviously now I do! Will be tough, I do worry she has coasted thru and hasn’t really been up against it in any of her matches. Not a problem if she just blows her opponent away again tho!
