    Damson, Bullace or Sloe?

Can anyone identify these? I always thought that sloes we’re normally on thorny bushes but happy to be take the knowledge of the group.

damson or bullace , sloe (blackthorn) has lots of sharp spikes on it.

Yes, sloes are small and on thorny bushes. Don't think there's much difference between the other two. Bullaces are just a wild plum and crosses between all of them can be found.

    What do they taste like?

I thought this thread would be about a fail to pay out on a one armed bandit machine.

Assuming it's ripe - about as easy to squeeze as a grape, stick it in your mouth. If it's lovely and sweet it's a plum. If it's tolerably sweet it's a bullace, if it's an acquired taste, it's a damson, if you automatically pucker up, it's a sloe. If you drop dead it's deadly nightshade...

gin/wine/relish , if you have the equipment the wine can be distilled to make slivovitz (plum brandy)

They look like Damsons to me.
If the bush is spiky, it's sloes, the fruit are small and fairly round
If it's not spiky, it's Damson or Bullace. Damsons fruit are oval almost plum shaped, whereas bullaces are smaller than Damsons, round, like a sloe, but bigger

I have a tree that looks like damsons in my new gaff. Might try a crumble

Sloe's have a small round stone, different to Damsons. The leaf is small, and there are the thorns! I pick a lot of sloes. The picture looks like Damsons to me, based on the fruit and leaf.

    Damson gin is lovely.

    Damson, Bullace or Sloe?

I use an app called Seek which uses the camera on your phone to identify plants. It’s free so might be worth a try. Tends to be quite addictive.

There really isn’t much difference between damson and bullace.

I used to make Damson wine. Absolutely awesome stuff if I say so myself. Sadly the tree that provided the Damsons was on council land, and some council clever-clogs decided to cut some of it's major limbs off. It's never recovered & no longer fruits.
