£50 and 1 bottle of rum

I know there are two or three rum threads knocking around but I am looking for specific inspiration rather than everybody listing several rums they like.

I have a £50 note (metaphorically speaking) and want to buy one bottle of really nice sipping rum.

So,if you are a rum drinker (and why would you be reading this if you aren’t??) and had £50 to buy your last ever bottle of sipping rum, what would it be?

(If I could head of the inevitable suggestion to buy several bottles of the cheapest supermarket plonk in existence….)

I’m definitely no connoisseur but I do know that Ron Zacapa 23 is tremendous and is about that price.

I used to drink an occasional bottle of Trois Rivières Rhum Vieux Agricole - I'm sure it used to be vintage but looking at some of the prices, either these have shot up or I was drinking something else from the same producer. It was definitely in this bottle/label combo (though obviously not the 1953).

    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

You could buy a couple of bottles of Wray & Nephew for that!

Village, I'm no expert but if you're looking for rum at short notice and only have access to a supermarket, Kraken is reasonable. For some reason, it doesn't result in headaches the way some of the others do.

What sort of rum do you enjoy?

This would be my choice if i was spending 50odd

    Possibly my favourite.

Alas they never have it at the all inclusive resorts!

Their cheaper 7yr is my usual default, but I just seem to be able consume lots without ending up even tipsy. Very weird.

Sorry , can’t help you with a recommendation as I’m not a rum drinker.
Reading this thread reminded me of a bottle I rescued from my dads house, he’s on meds and no longer allowed alcohol so he was going to throw this out. I took it simply to throw in the cupboard until Christmas.
The box looks plain enough, then I “googled” the contents, last bottle sold at auction for 450 Aus dollars.
The bottle is unopened and will remain so until dad departs this earth. Then my brother and I will raise a glass (or two) in his honour.
Btw , hoping that’s a long way off.
    Regards Daz.

I’ve always got Kraken In the drinks cabinet!

I don’t need anything at short notice (I’ve also got some other rums handy)…..I’m about to win a bet with a mate which pays out in the form of a bottle of rum with a price cap of £50 and was looking for inspiration to see if anything came up that I hadn’t considered.

Try some of the Tanduay rums from the Philippines.
Very smooth and most enjoyable when drunk straight.

You've never actually sipped it though, have you? Possibly in case it disolves your mouth.

I would buy a bottle of Diplomatico Family reserve.
It’s the best rum I have ever tried.
    £49 from whisky exchange currently
