    Eateries in Edinburgh

    Hello all TZers

Just wondering, myself and the rest of the family which includes my wife and 2 kids 7 and 8 are off to Edinburgh end of October.
Do any of you guys have any recommendations for dining? Any ideas will be appreciated.

We’ve tried the Educated Flea and thought it was spot on, lovely food and the staff were awesome.

Thanks for your help, hope all is well.

    Jon.

For breakfast/brunch, try Di Giorgios Cafe in Canonmills.
Tapa in Leith is decent for a taste of Spain.
Bells Diner in Stockbridge is the place to go for a burger with kids
Mexican eateries "El Cartel" have 3 venues in Edinburgh and knock all the others such as Wahaca etc into next week.
For Spanish a little more upmarket, try Cadiz in George St but Cafe Andaluz on the ground floor in the same building is average.
Fazenda on George St expensive but good.

Was there for a few days with wife and daughter last autumn; loved it. Pirlous (cafe at Grassmarket) and Dishoom (Indian - really!) for breakfast; Mariachi (Mexican) and The Ivy for dinner. But loads of other excellent places if your tastes or budget are different. Hope you have a great time.

Fishers in the city or Fishers in Leith are both worth a look for seafood.

Makars gourmet mash is very good, but it gets really busy.... recommend the mash with black pudding

We ate Cafe Marlayne on Thistle St last year and it was tremendous. Small and rustic but very good.

Last time I went for work, we ha a nice Italian dinner in a place called “ La locanda del gusto”. Excellent seafood and meats, don’t know the cost though - probably medium. It’s near the centre, at the west end of Princess Street, going out passed Haymarket.

I've eaten here a few times...

Not because I'm veggie, but because the food was great.

Taisteal in Forth Street is a relaxed atmosphere serving some lovely grub. £30 for 3 courses as well, or they do a tasting menu.. so pretty reasonable.

Hannams just down from the castle is one of the better for Middle Eastern stuff. Erbils near the University is another Middle Eastern that we like.

Been meaning to try Cannonball near the castle, owned by Italians but it’s Scottish fare. Been getting good reviews.

If you travel down to Leith, then I’d you can get a table at The Kitchin then it’s got to be worth a visit. For street food down Leith, I love the Bao Buns at Bundits.

Id echo about not being impressed with the Witchery. Used to be great but last couple of times I’ve been I’ve not been too impressed.

For breakfast, try Chop House. Not sure if they are still doing it, but if you booked online they used to throw in a free Bloody Mary !

More street food, Down the Hatch across from the Playhouse.

Someone mentioned Fazenda earlier… go on an empty stomach of you do try it and prepare for the meat sweats.

Ate at a place called the Whiski Bar near the Royal Mile four weeks ago. Lovely cosy atmosphere and the food was great. Mind-boggling choice of Scotch whisky as well, if that's your thing.

Best pizza in Edinburgh is any of the Civerinos outlets, next best is Dough.

For Thai, head to Bruntsfield and Thai Lemongrass - it's excellent.

I'd also agree with other posters on Fazenda and Cadiz.

La Petite Folie is good atmosphere, service and food.

Kyloe and Chop House both excellent for steak/meat.

    For curry I'd recommend Shezan.

Best brunch for me is Cafe Grande that also do excellent dinner. The Magnum is a good spot for a nice set lunch. We are very spoiled in Edinburgh, thousands of fabulous places to eat!
