    A Bespoke Suit

I'm feeling a bit scruffy after lockdown and like the idea of a new suit. I've always bought of the peg but I think its time I got to know a tailor. Can anyone recommend where I could go in London or Kent. I'm looking for good fit and quality, but not astronomically top end. Semi-bespoke should be fine. I did find this earlier threat, but a number of the links have expired and I'm sure things have changed in the last six years.

Though I no longer wear one, or had one made by George, I still hear good things about him, I believe there was some of his work in that thread too.

This guy can probably help. Doesn’t just do weddings.

    Need to make an appointment.

    He’s also a watch guy.

A Friend of mine has just gone out on his own after being head cutter at Kilgour and 20 years on the row before that.
    https://www.williamadamsbespoke.com
his instagram has more of what he’s currently working on.

He’s made suits that have been worn collecting oscars as well as for people like me.
He’s in Bromley and does fittings in central London or hops on his bike for local visits in S/SE london.

EDIT: website says full bespoken but i know he works with suppliers in Italy/Portugal for shirts and made to measure so could do cheaper than fully bespoke.
just had a shirt in fine demin made in italy through him, i collect it next week. had the left hand cuff made bigger for a watch!

    What is your budget?

This chap was recommended recently on a thread on PH and might be worth a chat: http://www.threadneedlemantailors.co.uk/

I have recently had a blazer made at WG Child & Sons in Wandsworth and am very pleased with it, however, they are fully bespoke makers and fairly pricey (though not Savile Row level) - http://childandsons.co.uk/

Fair question but I'm not sure what my budget is. South of a grand would be nice.

George makes all my suits, but he has an outlet in my local Asda!

Another personal recommendation for George Dyer/Thrreadneedlman, he is an artist and a gentleman. He made me a three piece suit a few years ago, and a couple of jackets and pairs of trousers since. Time spent in his company is time well spent. He is great whether you know precisely how you want something to fit (down to the 16th of an inch) or if you would prefer to let him use his experience to guide you.

I can also recommend Susannah Hall, who has a shop in Clerkenwell, lovely woman, has made a couple of fantastic jackets for me.

George is slightly more old school, Susannah more contemporary. Both good.

I can recommend David Groves at RoomTen. He has a place on Saville Row and a shop in Farnham.

He has done all my work suits & shirts and the quality is exceptional. He has also done a load of casual jackets and chinos too.

You won't get bespoke at that price, but tailored/made to measure should be in reach. Friend of mine is using https://www.casualfitters.co.uk/ for some trousers and they look decent value so may be worth a chat.

That seems pretty optimistic. I doubt it would be wholly made in the UK at that price?

Agreed it won't - anyone at that price will be outsourcing to southern Europe or the Far East but you should still get a good fit if they are decent at the measuring and understand their patterns. You should also be able to get some customisations to your taste, like linings, buttons, pockets, etc.

Thanks for all the replies. I probably am being optimistic with the price, but would settle for some tailoring, and a good fit.

I bought a suit in Reiss in Vigo Street, London (just off Regent Street, near Saville Row) and they were able to alter both the jacket and trousers so it fit properly.

It was a good experience for me.
