These 3 would be the contenders to leave for me. Good watches no doubt, but just in context of the wider collection you have.

Thanks for all the comments - I hadn't considered that this thread essentially invites people to slag off my watches, but it's oddly really enjoyable!

That was my thinking, and seems a popular opinion (oh dear, bodes well for eventual SC listing!). They are both so much better in the flesh, the finishing on both is excellent, but the AT is a fraction too thick for my liking, and the GS just hasn't been picked in awhile.

Oddly, I asked Patek about one and they said that the 5127/1G is bracelet only. Surely this is nonsense?

I like that mechanically the watch knows what month it is and it means you only need to correct the date once a year (if it stayed on the wrist that long). But yes, can't argue with you on that..

Apologies and agreed, the speedy is normally on the leather the BB58's on until I find the right leather strap for the new boy. Are Bulang worth it?

Can't fault the logic here, but I do love that DJ, think it's the best thing I've bought off this forum (cheers Vince!)

By all means Mark, very happy to oblige, will dig some pics out! It is a 5127/1G from 2010. It's around when Patek moved from the Geneva Seal to the PP one, but this is Geneva in case anyone cares. And yes the DJ is a linen dial, so great with the light.

Good thinking! I did actually used to have a blue navitimer which my boss made me sell him. That was lovely, but with the date such a pain to set (and it bothered the OCD being wrong) rarely got worn.

Ha, I did think that, but it annoys me to look at the collection where one of them is "homeless". Yes I know that sounds stupid.

And the dearly missed navitimer referred to above:

I think the PP is really lovely. Wouldn't be going anywhere if it was mine.

Love the replies on this thread, goes to show the breadth of preferences.

I personally would also ditch the Patek or the GS. Not sure why, they both stuck out as out of place. The Smiths does too but I guess everyone needs a more inexpensive daily in the box.

For me it would have to be the Reverso. I have a deep dislike for square/oblong watches. Keep the rest!

    Lots of different comments/opinions.

For me I would drop the PP, the Smiths and the JLC and do some shopping. If you like a Reverso then find a bigger one with more interest to it e.g a grand date.

The DJ is a class and classic act.

I really love the Patek. So pure and classy. If I had to lose one I'd lose the Smiths. Or, to paraphrase 'Jaws'..."We're gonna need a bigger box!"

We and the OP are the initiated though! Both great watches that I'd be keeping.

Lose the Smiths - if you want one again, it'll always be affordable, all the rest will get ever-more unaffordable with time.

  15. #65
If that were my box, the PP would go because I think it lacks character, which is very important for me in a watch.

I’d definitely buy another watch with the money though!

For me it’s GS, Datejust, Smiths in that order.

Completely agree both re the opinions and the Everest being useful as a cheaper daily.

Enjoying the Patek bashing, but it’s staying for now. While it’s dull (/classic) I love the quality of the movement, the simple yet classy style, and the heft of a white gold watch and bracelet that most people never even notice.

I think there’s room for both the Patek and DJ. I like the idea of upgrading to a more complicated Reverso but three dress watches is probably silly.

My girlfriend thinks I should get rid of “that weird red and blue one” - I’m glad no ones agreed with her! Probably my absolute favourite.

The GS feels the logical choice to go, but was bought as an alternate GMT when I didn’t want to risk travelling with the Pepsi. It has 5 digit rolex case dimensions, better finishing and bracelet, and unbelievable accuracy. We will see.

My thoughts exactly although as others have said, it would look better on leather.

The red and blue one is the best watch in your collection.

GS would be my choice for culling.
BTW, it should be ‘what is leaving’.
Watched are inanimate objects and referring to them as anything other than that sounds a little bit creepy.

That would be my reasoning too. And since the Datejust actually has some character and the PP is very bland to me that would be the one I’d let go.

    Thanks! It’s a 5127G.

When I first started collecting I loved chronographs and busy dials, but increasingly as ook says I find less is more.
