Van Morrison and The Band at the Last Waltz (actually anyone with The Band) still gets me every time I listen to, or watch it!
And the slightly unlikely combination of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant on the album Raising Sand is fantastic..

For me there have been some amazing collaborations, some have been better than others though. First hand I witnessed Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke get together back in the 70's, others spring to mind. Kate Bush & Peter Gabriel, Motorhead & Girlschool, Jimmy Page and David Coverdale all very good.
My favourite was Neil Young and Pearl Jam the Mirror Ball project. I saw them together at Reading in 1995, it was astonishing. Certainly much better than expected. The album still stands up as one of Young's very finest.

What amalgamation has impressed you?

Simon and Garfunkel - has to be one of the best all time combos.
Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel's Don't give up is one of my all time favourite tracks.
Far too many marvellous pairings to list here, but the true greats are unforgettable once seen.

Echo the Linkin Park/Jay-Z collab. I like both in their own right but never in a million years thought that album would be as good as it was.
Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman, not my usual cup of tea but that's a superb piece of music.
Last one, Metallica with the San Francisco orchestra. Most of us will have heard their incredible version of "nothing else matters" but the whole concert is worth a listen.
Brian Eno & David Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, released in 1981. Seminal.

Rogers & Hammerstein
The Sound of Music
Mad Season
Audioslave
The line between collaboration and supergroup can be a little hazy, I accept.
1. Already mentioned, Van Morrison and the Band with Van's trouser splitting antics on Caravan. Unforgettable.
2. Neil Young giving a lesson to Pearl Jam in Rocking in the free world. Mesmerising.
3. My Grandson and I with the Big Muffs turned right up for Neil Young's Hey Hey, My My (Into the black).
Cheers,
Neil.
I don't know if it qualifies as a 'collaboration' but the Heritage Orchestra (Pete Tong and Jules Buckley) is spine tingly and all-encompassing, sheer, dance bliss. Obviously you have to be a MOS/Pete Tong fan to fully appreciate but the way the classical musicians render the hooj chunes is awesome.

I can’t believe no ones mentioned the legendary collaboration between Chris Waddle and Glen Hoddle, Diamond lights I think it was called and I remember them appearing on top of the pops and looking slightly embarrassed whilst miming along.
On a more serious note UK Apache and Shy FX teaming up for Original Nutta was an absolute classic.
Bill Evans and Tony Bennett
Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe worked well

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell - awesome together.
Cheers,
Neil.
Traveling Wilburys.
Linkin Park and Jay Z, and in a similar vein The Grey Album by Danger Mouse.
Temple of the Dog.
Zack De La Rocha and Run The Jewels.
And countless Dave Grohl collabs such as Probot, Them Crooked Vultures and the Sound City album
Don Estelle and Windsor Davies
Glen Campbell & Jimmy Webb.
Always had a soft spot for this duet
Being more into Rock/Metal this is a strange choice for me but their voices just melt together wonderfully -
The Travelling Wilbury's obvs, but I'm really enjoying Mick Fleetwood and Friends at the moment - their version of The world Keep on Turning is really good

One of the best was Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach.
One of the worst was Jimmy Pursey and the Sex Pistols.
Bowie and Freddie Mercury - under pressure
Mike Oldfield, Pierre Moerlen (Gong) Hansford Rowe, on stage at Newcastle City Hall, one of the best concerts I've seen.
