    Column Radiators

We're in the process of decorating our living room/dining room and looking to replace the standard radiators with the column variety. We need in excess of 8.5kw to heat the room and the other half likes the look of these https://apolloradiators.co.uk/design...olumn-radiator in a grey colour.

To get to the heat output we'd have to go with 4 column rads, which is fine but my main concern is that there's only two reviews online and neither are good.

Can anyone recommend any other manufacturers of similar radiators as I'd want them to last if spending the best part of £5k plus fitting.

We put two in an extension, from Screwfix (only sell white though)

Been there a few years, no issues. Not much to go wrong really.

I’ve fitted Screwfix and B&Q column rads in two properties - 8 1/2 years on and no problems to date.

They do those in a dark grey as well - got one in the dining room and planning on putting a couple more in the lounge and hallway shortly. We bought a much more expensive one in a very similar style for our bedroom a couple of years ago, and there's really very little difference in terms of quality from the Screwfix ones. One of those things you'll stop noticing about 4 weeks after you've had them fitted anyway!

Thanks, I'll see what I can find. I need 4 column rads in order to get the required heat output and ~1400 wide as that's what suits the existing pipework popups through the floor.

You’ve solved the main issue which is the heat output. We moved from a traditional radiator to a panel in the kitchen & it has never been warm since - we learned the mistake the hard way, just assumed the latter one would put out more heat.

10yrs on and kitchen is being redone. We still like the look of the tall panel l, so that will stay but with the addition of underfloor heating.

It's something I had only considered in passing until I had a heating engineer round yesterday to do the calculations for me. We suffer from massive heat loss as it's a large room with a partial mezzanine and 8 metres to the roof as it's a barn conversion. The plan is to increase the heat output as much as I can but retaining the existing radiator width which is dictated by the pipes coming through the floor.

Ah that makes sense. Well done for catching that then. Ah is yours the room with a central wood fired stove too? Maybe not but sounded familiar with the mezzanine.

Well remembered. This is how it looks today, plasterer has covered the partially exposed brick columns that the other half didn't like and a crack in the ceiling. Electrician has moved tv and relocated CAT6 cabling. Floor has been re-tiled in the middle which meant I had to remove the log burner! The timber flooring is being sanded and Osmo oiled tomorrow as for some reason one half is oiled and the other half varnished, hence furniture piled in the middle. Decorator should be coming later this month, if I can coordinate removal and reinstallation of radiators and then the final jobs are a cabinet/shelving unit being made around the TV and a crittall partition going in to separate the room up a bit. It's been remarkably hard work to arrange the timing of the trades.

We have several of those Apollo Roma radiators. It’s very important that they hang centrally on the wall brackets and that the pipes have room to move where they exit the wall (i.e. have an oversized hole and fit shrouds). If you don’t do this then you run the risk that the outer coatings will crack.

Alex, remember it as I love it; our ideal lounge & socialising set up. Will look amazing when you get it all finished - can see it coming together already from previous photos.

I've used Best heating and found them to be very good.

Wow, never thought I'd see someone with a ballroom in their house.
