A worthwhile cause. We’ve seen a number of painted rocks around our town and they do bring a smile.

Our eldest daughter is currently taking part in her National Citizen Service summer placement, part of which involves promoting positivity, changing lives for the better and fundraising for charity.
After careful thought they have chosen to support Rethink Mental Illness which operates at a grassroots level to improve the quality of life for all of those affected by mental illness. She is acutely aware that family members, friends and carers of those suffering from debilitating mental illness often need help as well as gaps in service provision for those in distress that Rethink help to bridge. There are around 140 Rethink local support groups.
Coupled with this they are placing a large number of hand painted rocks around a local park, decorated with happy and peaceful images, positive messages and details of mental health support services. The idea is to make people smile and raise awareness of the assistance available for those struggling.
They are promoting their efforts via social media and face-to-face in the park tomorrow. If anyone cares to share this onto their facebook, twitter, etc. I'd be very grateful.
Here's their JustGiving page:

Matthew

A great thing they are doing Matthew. The apple clearly doesn’t fall far from the tree.
What a great initiative
Great stuff M.
Such an important cause.
“You could be the reason someone smiles today”.
Worth a donation on it’s own, I love this kinda stuff, well done to your daughter and all concerned.
I can but echo what has been said by others above. Good stuff indeed.
Well done Her!
I definitely think these National citizenship courses are of hugely varying standards. My son did his earlier in August and the team that led his was, shall we say, less than impressive. Or,as I would say, lazy. I’m glad to see that your daughter’s experience seems to be far better than my son’s and that they are doing something something thoughtful and beneficial.
Many, many thanks for all of the thoughtful comments which are a real boost to her and her team. Thanks also for the generous donations to their fundraising page. Once again TZ shows its best side!
The team leaders have been a little bit hit-and-miss at times but the overall programme seems to have been well constructed, covered a lot of relevant activities and had very worthwhile objectives. Occasionally the youngsters have had to take the initiative to move things along but in some ways that's been a good thing. We have to bear in mind that most of the leaders are just three or four years older than the participants and they have had to cope with things like no-show guest speakers and uncertainties around COVID. They seem to have done a really good job on inclusivity (it's a fairly diverse group), it's generated some interesting conversations at home and there have been some new friendships forged.
As it nears the end our eldest has stated that she would like to be a future leader on the programme, which is a good indication that she's enjoyed it and found it to be beneficial.

What a good cause, one that I'm happy to contribute towards.
We've had a number of hand painted rocks placed around in our village with kind messages, no idea who did them but they've certainly raised many smiles.

Excellent!
Donation made.
What a lovely thoughtful thing to do. Love it!
It's just a matter of time...
Forgot to add, if you don't like reading, the book as lots of nice pictures in it - innit.
I'm not a well man at the moment - messaged MrC to ask if he was happy to delay drawing the raffle until next Sunday (in an attempt to gather one or two more contributions) but he hasn't been able reply as yet. SO, as An arbitrary executive decision maker are posters in agreement to delay the raffle?
Really sorry about the delay in replying, your suggestion sounds absolutely fine and I hope that you feel better soon.
She's already over the moon with the amount raised (currently £500 including Gift Aid) and it has been a delight to see her reaction as the donations come in. A few of the painted rocks have been commented on via Instagram hashtags with invariably positive messages, which indicates that the goal of raising a few smiles has also been a success.

H will aim to draw at about 20:00 BST. There's at least one name to add and the total is looking very healthy, as is her smile.

What a wonderful thread.
It's a privilege to share the forum with you all.
Arrived today courtesy of Jeff. Far too generous! Many thanks indeed sir.
What a treat this was from suds yesterday when I got home. There were also two Freddos but they were inhaled before I remembered to take a picture.
Thank you so much.
Suds, you are an absolute star.

An article about the activities of Heather's team has just been published on the NCS website. She's beaming, thanks again for helping to make it such a success.
