    Tag Heuer Case back closure

    Hi there,

My wife's Tag Heuer Link (wjf1410) battery had died and I had a drawer full of the correct Renata 364 so just set about replacing it. As I've done it before in the past without problem.

But this time, for the life of me I cannot get the case back on, even using a press. I suspect the small blue gasket has aged and warped and it is somewhat hard and rigid.
Don't suppose anyone is able to help me find a suitable replacement or alternative?. It's plastic or nylon rather than rubber and from my measurement 19mm internal diameter and about 1mm thick.

Any help or advise gratefully received!

Heh nice improvisation, I use a case back press with nylon die, I don't think applied force is the problem, the gasket has spread/damaged so a new one will be needed (it will now anyway after repeated attempts mangling it more!). But I don't know where to source.

I bought a nylon gasket similar to your description from cousins -
I presume it’s a crush gasket - when you replace it put in in the case not the Caseback
    Search for I gasket

    Thanks all, i've PM'd tagbits.
I had a look at I gaskets, but they all seem for crystals not backs.
    Let's see what tagbits says

    cheers

This type of gasket is re- usable and has a slight chamfer on one side, there’s a right and wrong way to refit them. The gasket should be fitted to the caseback with the chamfer facing upwards to guide it into the case.

A replacement can probably be sourced from Cousins but you need to accurately measure the existing one. If a replacement really is too tight to fit it can be trimmed using fine wet and dry paper to take a bit off.

There’s a strong case for letting a watch repairer do these jobs.
