Day trip to France - how does the whole Covid test thing work?

If you pop over to France for one day (ie leave morning, return evening) are you still required to get a test on return?

Can’t see why you wouldn’t have to. Why go for one day - is it for work?

You need to do everything required when returning from an amber list country. The length of your stay is irrelevant.

Thanks chaps - nothing special really, just thought of a quick whizz over on the bike due to France withdrawal symptoms: been on/off to France pretty much every year for various reasons and durations for the last three decades bar 2020/21 of course...

Can't do a great deal of that now, limited to two cases for wine and one for champers.

I looked into going over for a weekend. It was for a different break with the wife for our wedding anniversary. With the Covid stuff ongoing we thought that it was not worth it. We have decided to stay in the UK - but so has everyone else.
A three night stay in a massive place in North France was swapped for 2 nights in a Premier inn - and I had to add extra money!

I would suggest staying at home is the best et at the moment.

    You’re in for a pleasant surprise !

I brought back 8 cases and a load of spelling Saumur along with a cheeky bottle of Ricard for good measure…

    Alcohol allowance
How much you can bring depends on the type of alcohol. You can bring in:

    beer - 42 litres
wine (not sparkling) - 18 litres
You can also bring in either:

spirits and other liquors over 22% alcohol - 4 litres
fortified wine (for example port, sherry), sparkling wine and alcoholic drinks up to 22% alcohol - 9 litres
You can split this last allowance, for example you could bring 4.5 litres of fortified wine and 2 litres of spirits (both half of your allowance).

On the testing front…. It was easy

Even a small French town is likely to have a laboratory…

If you’re double vaxed no requirement to test to get into France…. You just need to compete some paperwork and upload it to the eurotunnel site

Was about 40 euros for our test and got the results that evening valid for 72 hours for a PCR…. Fill in the U.K. paperwork and upload and you just get waived through - was a cinch
