    RIP Gerd Muller

Didn’t realise until I’d just read that he’d died, that he’d had dementia for 6 years. Before my time but recall hearing about his record growing up.

Incredible goals to games ratio and won just about everything.

Just insane how good a goalscorer he was. Absolute tragedy. Great that he watched his single-season Bundesliga scoring record beaten before he passed. Lewandowski was gracious about it at the time too. So sad. RIP.

    RIP.

68 goals in 62 appearances for Germany is an astonishing record.

    RIP Gerd Muller

He ruined my childhood. He made me and millions of others English souls cry. We were two nil up in Mexico until Muller destroyed us. Hence the term Mullered! He also murdered us in the Nations cup in 1972. Him and Gunter Netzer tore us apart. He really was a great, if Harry Kane is worth 150,000,000 then Muller in his prime would be over 200 million. RIP Gerd

That's exactly what I remember him for, that and ruining Peter Bonetti's England career.

Still remember watching the 74 final when he scored the winning goal in typical Muller fashion.

I can easily name more members of the German 1974 national team than of this year's team.
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.

You saying 1974 just reminded me . . . . We were on holiday in the Algarve in April 1986 (we always went away in April as summer was too busy for dad). I was 16 and my brother was 15. Turned out the the apartment that we were staying in was owned by a Portuguese chap who had worked in a cafe near where we live in Westward Ho! 20 years earlier where my mum had worked the year before as a summer job - once he knew that he couldn’t do enough for us. One day he gave my dad his car keys and sent us to a chicken restaurant up in the hills that everyone went too. Chicken and chips was all they sold and it was amazing. Looking back it must have been peri peri. Anyway I digress . . . .

As we we leaving my brother asked my mum if she had a pen and piece of paper in her handbag. With that he walked over to a man and asked for his autograph. Turned out to be Paul Breitner!

England's nemesis, when I was a kid. Great player, sad to hear of his passing.

Great story, what a player he was too. He looked like a 70's porn star but was as hard as nails!
