It’s not really very steep. 6.1% gradient.

Indeed, looked at from side on, it looks positively benign. Very strong structure aswell.

Looks around the same angle/pitch as the house in the foreground.

Must be kinda spooky in a high sided vehical I'd recon.

Apparently the South side of the Dartford Crossing is 4%.

I've absolutely no idea if it is or not, HookedSeven said that.

The photo is making the bottom of the bridge to look much closer to the highest point due to using a telephoto lens.

I get jittery crossing the Humber bridge, so I'm fairly sure that traversing that one would freak me right out!

Why could that bridge not have been made with a more gradual slope from the edge of the hill. Or do ships pass under that middle bit?

I grew up on a farm above Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, Mytholm steeps for anyone who knows it is mainly 1 in 5 (20%) but with a 1 in 4 (25%) section towards the top.

It’s a bugger to cycle up!

I dont know but you've probably hit the nail on the head regarding ships.

7 mile bridge, in the Florida Keys has a large hump towards the southern end that looks quite scary on approach but is actually quite tame once you are on it.
