Funnily enough I believe some Renault engines were/are used in smaller Mercedes cars and sold for..well Mercedes money.

Was this not highlighted about 10 years ago with the so called Panerai PAM 318 "Brooklyn Bridge" model ?

Judging from his final comments about IWC, his ire extends to them as well

Two of my Omegas have ETA movements - a 2892 in my Dynamic III and a quartz 64.111 (I think) in my Aquaterra.

Don't touch anything by Richemont. If this is what they do with the parts you can see, I would hate to think what they are doing with the parts you cannot see. Their service centers suck too.

Yes. You'd think they would have learned. Recidivists.

    Arguably that's in-house (ETA / Swatch).

    IWC and Sellita

    Cal. 35XXX (Sellita)
IWC often uses Cal. 35XXX based on Sellita SW300-1. IWC Cal. 35111 is equivalent to ETA 2892. Models with three central hands of the Portofino Family, Da Vinci Family, Ingenieur Family and Pilot’s Watches are equipped with cal. 35111. Cal. 35750 moon phase is used in the Portofino Family. Cal. 35700 GMT Day & night is used in the Portofino GMT watch.

Not disputing what is stated about those particular IWC movements (as far as I'm aware IWC has not, in the past, made any secret about their use of modified 'base' movements) however, I personally wouldn't place too much trust in a site where the grammar is so poor and which clearly enjoys promoting 'replicas' of just about anything.

The same list appears in other places:

    3. The Movement
The watch’s 35111 Calibre takes from the Sellita SW300-1 movement. It is, however, not a manufacture movement. Perhaps this is the reason behind its competitive price. But its quality and accuracy exceeded expectations. This ETA base movement beats a standard 4 Hz with 42 hours of power reserve. As usual, it’s protected from magnetic fields by the soft-iron inner case. Hidden behind a solid caseback, one can see the Junkers Ju 52 aeroplane engraved on it. The same movement powers the IWC Portofino, IWC Ingenieur, as well as IWC Da Vinci.

It’s basically a rebuilt ETA 2892 with an attached Sellita SW-300 base.

I think that Mercedes is not using them any more, they are just not up to Mercedes standard.
