Thread: Oculus Quest 2

    Oculus Quest 2

I had a play with one of these over the weekend, a friend of mine bought one a few weeks back and this was the first time I was able to get over to his to see what it's all about - to say I was impressed is an understatement! We used it linked to his PC for some sim racing (Assetto Corsa, I believe) and some other games built into the system itself, I had no idea that these things were so immersive and that they placed you fully within a 3-D and interactive environment, in my naivety I kind of presumed it was like holding your mobile 'phone close up to your face...

Anyone here use one? I'm seriously considering a purchase myself though it would be for system games only as I don't have a PC (that's a possibility for next year as I'd like to get in to sim racing), what games do people have for theirs and are people getting good use out of them? I know you can system link with other players elsewhere, does that work well? Any worthwhile accessories or hints and tips? I've heard that they can be hacked and modified though I've read very little about this, personally.

I've got an Oculus Rift S which I used for a small while with IRacing but then I went back to triple screens. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 in VR is a bit of a blast though.

have had an oculus about for a while I never used ; finally got organized enough to have it with me for HL Alyx in a few days along with a beefy machine...expecting a unique gaming experience.

I have never tried VR, but would like to have a go in i racing or ACC. I would be tempted to go for the Pimax, or HP Reverb though. They are both supposed to be excellent. The added benefit is no Facebook login required with other brands.

They are great as a stand-alone system for quick gaming, I’ve loved Echo VR which is a esports game. Linked to a PC they are a different proposition altogether and to be honest there are better systems if you’re running via a PC but if you want something to do both then the Quest is a good compromise.

I think Pimax do 8k now, would love to see that in VR!

I've got the Oculus Quest 2 and it's an amazing bit of kit, literally takes you to another world.
Although I know I'm in my living room I can't bring myself to walk out onto Richie's Plank!

I impulse-bought one a month ago, been really really impressed. We had something at work but it plugged into the pc, you had a heavy wire out the back of the headset and needed two sensors screwed into the ceiling. And you would still hit the wall occasionally.

The quest 2 is completely wireless, you just turn it on, it shows you the room you’re in via cameras on the outside and you draw a “safe zone” which it tells you in game play when you reach the edge of, and off you go. Not bumped into anything yet!

Really immersive and expected graphics to be a bit crap but have been impressed.

    Games I’ve tried:
    - beat saber - lightsabering boxes to music, very satisfying
    - robo recall, shooting or ripping apart robots, great physics engine makes this really engaging as you grab the robots, throw them into each other etc
    - Vadar Immortal, too much story too little action so far, but being in a little spaceship you can wander about and interact with then captured by star destroyer was awesome
    - sniper elite; ww2 shooting/sneaking. This is the most recent and just getting to grips with it, though struggling a bit of motion sickness

Gf has tried and liked beat saber, but she loved vr YouTube - who knew that was a thing!

My palms are sweating just watching the video, that’s crazy, and the falling visual when you jump off. I’d love to put one on & torment myself with my fear of heights!

Thank you all for your responses.

My concern was that I'd use it for a short while and then have it collecting dust, it's only me in the house so it's not as if I'll have others using it on a regular basis. Given how much of an immersive experience it is I think it's great value for money, especially so that it can be used for films and videos as well.

I think I'll keep as eye on ebay and see what comes up.

My son has a Quest. The reaction of those players is exactly how real it feels, despite the graphics not being photo realistic. I feel it's lacking in decent games to make it more that a novelty though - the price of the hardware needs to come down significantly if it's ever going to really take off.

Also, there's pornhub vr. Never tried it, though it looks interesting.

Not sure I agree on price. £299 is pretty good IMO. There is a lot of bang for your buck.
