Have you checked for snakes? The presence of one could explain the sound.
Yes a bit random, we have just emptied the freezer part of our fridhe freezer, its left empty with the door shut as we have moved it from the kitchen whilst the flooring is being done.
on a few occations when i have opened and closed the door it makes a loud hissing sound from the back, is it buggered?
thanks in advance.

Very unlikely to be the compressed gas.
Sounds like air getting in/out somewhere due to pressure differential. Would have thought it should be air-tight but shouldn’’t prevent it functioning.
I don't think this is related to the hissing, but my fridge-freezer is a "frost-free" one, and indeed, it does not frost up. Even damp stuff put into the fridge will tend to dry out. Where does all that water go? I assumed it just vented into the air, but when I pulled out the fridge recently and looked at the back, I discovered a drip tray at the bottom that was full of gungy water. I don't know if that is how other frost-free models work, but I now know to empty the drip tray now and then.
When we shut the door on our Bosch freezer, there is a sound like the door seals being compressed, almost as though the freezer is creating a small vacuum inside to ensure the seal is tight.
Perhaps it is that ?
