Recommend me a Decking Stain - Cuprinol or Ronseal?

My decking is looking a little tired so it needs a good scrubbing and treating with a wood stain.

Has anyone done this recently and can you recommend a product?

Are Cuprinol or Ronseal the top choices?

    Thanks in advance!

I've used Ronseal for the past 6 years and been happy with the results but will try Osmo next time, as so many friends and tradesmen have recommended it to me.

I gave them a call when I needed some last time and they were very helpful. Mine was for a pergola and a shed so slightly different use and therefore different oil but like I say my mate uses osmo branded oil only.

Our deckhas been down about 6 years and was never treated by the previous owner. We gave it a moderate pressure clean and applied two coats of Creocote. It has come up way better than I expected and should last a few years before needing another coat, although we will probably have the painter who recommended it apply another coat in Autumn. The only caveat is that it's a little fumy for a few weeks after.

The very best stuff you can get regardless of price - that's a job I prefer to do as infrequently as possible

I would use oil when I had decking I used 3 different brands of stain and it all started peeling after a few winter months the stain seemed to just sit on top of the wood but the oil sinks in

Topical video that compares Osmo with its rivals. I've set it to start at the relevant bit, but the whole thing is worth watching https://youtu.be/ZOQ2L1TMayc?t=814

Under no circumstances ever use decking stain - appalling stuff that lasts a year if you are lucky and then flakes off. It doesn't protect the wood much either.

Always use decking oil - I use American Rye Oil - fabulous.

Our decking is about fifteen or more years old, and looks like it was laid last week.

You can get decking oil on ebay far cheaper than in B&Q too.
So clever my foot fell off.

They sure do, I used it this year on my decking and really impressed with it.

Is osmo any good for fences that have already been stained? I did mine 4 years ago with a tub of cheap stuff that looked great to start, but now has started to lose its coverage.

+1 for this. This Guy's DIY videos are incredibly helpful and he also admits when he makes mistakes and how to rectify them. I'd give it a watch before you choose your product
