    Which one? Big 'n bold

I already know the answer from my perspective, but I thought it would be fun to ask for some opinions from your own perspectives. An opportunity to say how silly/ugly or special/interesting etc these are.

    I'm (probably) going to choose one of these;

    1) Omega Ploprof titanium with grey dial https://www.ablogtowatch.com/omega-s...nometer-watch/

    2) IWC Big Pilot Le Petit Prince
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/atelier...ar-review/amp/

    3) Panerai Submersible BMG Tech

PAM. Different without being weird like the Ploprof and the BP is just a little boring in the company of the PAM.

None are to my taste, but if I was going to have one of them it'd be the Omega, then the IWC and lastly the Pam.

Panerai all the way for me. Pilots do nothing for me and although I’m aware of their status amongst WIS the Omega is just ugly to me.

I've never understood the appeal of the Ploprof. What problem does that chunky, angular case solve? Perhaps there's an esoteric answer related to diving, but it wouldn't have an application in regular use on dry land. I think the Luminor is the most pleasing design.

Panerai for me too. I have never seen the appeal of the Omega either. I have often thought about a Big Pilot but I know I wouldn't keep it.

    The Ploprof all day long.

But then you knew that already, Alun.

Proplof for me, but that's easy as it's one of my all time favourite watches.

I don’t understand the ploprof at all. To my eyes it has no redeeming features at all. Iwc for me closely followed by the Pam. Ploprof a distant third

Not helped by the fact I can never remember if it’s ploprof or proplof

    Proplof first for sheer lunacy....
    Panerai second ..
Iwc too sensible in this bunch

PAM by a country mile for me. As others have said, I don't understand the Ploprof at all & can take or leave the IWC.

Ploprof for me but when I tried the Ti version I was shocked how easily it had marked.
Admittedly it was a shop display version but it looked very tatty for a watch that had not had much wear.

    PloProf for me too.
IWC is just a dinner plate.
Panerai I just don't get. I think all the brilliant Italian designers did cars, which left the also-rans to do watches. The recent Italian watch thread was an orgy of awful looking watches.

I wouldn't say that any of them win 'by a mile' as I like all three. I love the IWC and have never owned one so that would be appealing. I've had/have two PAMs (an 86 and currently a 321) but have never had a Submersible - love the bezel. Had previously had an inkling for a Ploprof which could easily be rekindled but I think, like another above, for a tool watch titanium might mark a little easily with such a large and protruding case so would probably err toward a steel version. Out of the three, probably the PAM.

Another vote for the PloProf here, it's iconic in a way the others aren't, for me. Plus it fits nicely into my emerging collection trend for unconventional watches...

  18. #18
Having owned all three the Panerai is the only one left. The other two, the IWC because of the size/crown & the proplof because of the weight/shape were unwearable for all but short bursts on the wrist (imho).

    Pam.

Titanium/grey dial on the Ploprof looks horrible to me and the IWC is boring.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

    IWC.
Im a fan of the big pilot, and although theyre very much marmite, I loved mine for reasons I couldn't quite describe.
Agree it can look dull in pics but its one of those that comes alive on the wrist.

You've already got a ploprof and panerai, so the IWC is a base you havent got covered. (IMO)

  22. #22
    PAM every time 👍

  23. #23
I would happily wear any of those three. The PAM would get my vote but only just as I like the madness of the Ploprof. The IWC isn’t that far behind either.

For me I think the ploprof edges it, although in titanium I'd go with the orange bezel for the full insanity

The 1) Omega Ploprof titanium with grey dial has my vote. Really nice piece and different enough to stand out.

None of the above for me. I would choose just about any PAM submersible over the other two, but just not the BMG case. I totally don't get it, and as you know I am a dedicated Paneristi.

IWC all day for me. But then I would say that given my last thread. Being left handed I wear my watches on my right had, making the Ploprof an impossible option.

Some great thoughts and preferences here. The new one should be here tomorrow. A compliment to these...

The IWC is the obvious choice, but is it the one?

  31. #31
I think you have gone Ploprof again.🙈

The ti Ploprof all day long (that said) I’m not sure what they cost anymore , but they really are cracking watches, and fun too.

Eeek Just checked the Omega website £9730!

The orange rubber looks really good against the grey dial
Not so sure on the white though.
These are on my want to try list, I am looking forward to some long term thoughts if possible

Agree that the orange is the way to go. I also wanted to say how beautifully brutal that looks. Congratulations on the choice!

Good choice and looks great on the orange rubber. How thick is that rubber strap at the lugs though?! I know the watch needs a decent strap but that looks like some hefty rubber! Still a great combo though.
