    Sad day

Had to get this fella put to sleep today.
We're all devastated but time will heal.

Sorry for your loss. As you say time is a wonderful healer but I think it’s fair to say you’ll never forget the happy times.

Went through the same thing just two years ago, still hurts, my sympathies are with you.

I'm so sorry, they are such a part of the family. We had to put to sleep our Jack Russel Spot last year after 17 years and we were devastated. I feel your pain.

Sorry for your loss. We had to do the same with our 14.5 year old Weimaraner last year.

We picked up a Border puppy a couple of weeks ago as I’ve always liked them

I'm very sorry - my condolences. Such a hard decision, but made for your dog rather than yourself. Like others have said, something I dread.

A sad day indeed but it looks like he was well loved and so had a great life. That's the best any dog could hope for.
Think about the good times. I'm sure there were many.

Condolences to you and your family. We have a 1year old, and though I am a cat person, I will miss her a lot when she's gone.

    Man that’s tough.

Always difficult, our pets aren’t just animals they are part of our families with their own little characters, needs & nuances.

We had 2 cats for 19 years & I don’t mind admitting I cried like a baby the day we had to say goodbye.

Hopefully you will have many years of happy memories to look back & remember the little fella by.

    Stay strong brother.

Thank you all for the sentiment it's really very much appreciated. We're struggling a little today but once we're all back at work on Monday and minds are elsewhere things will get easier.

Post 20 pretty much sums it up as it happened yesterday.

He was called Otto, had a wonderful 15 years and will be massively missed.

Always so hard. I'm sure Otto lived his best life, it's all we can do for our pals.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

I know how you feel, said goodbye a few times.

Possibly a bit early but a new pup can help heal the pain.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

My heartfelt sympathy OP, it will be easier as time passes, but you will never forget the friendship over all the years.
