    DIY Ear irrigation ?

I've watched a few YouTube videos of people getting their ears irrigated and lumps of brown wax falling into the collection tray resting on their shoulder.

I've bought one and plan on using it this weekend.

Just wondered if anyone else has used one?

If I'm still alive on Monday I'll post my thoughts.

Genuinely interested to see (and hear) how you get on.

I've had my ears syringed a couple of times in the past 10 years or so, both times were at my GP surgery. If you can DIY, then something I might do more often.

That wire brush seems pretty brutal. Must be some serious wax problem.

I must admit to using cotton buds. Not recommended, I know, but I can often scrape out enough for a light lunch. :D

Can you use the machine for both? If so what do you do first?

I'm pretty sure that brush doesn't go in your ear!
    I'll check instructions first.

These are excellent, but you must soften it first with olive oil for 3-4 days.
They will also protect your ear drum.
    Work a treat.👂👂

Not DIY but I went private last year bypassing the doctors referral completely. Highly recommended from me. They don’t flush out the wax anymore but vacuum it out nowadays and there’s no need to pre-soften it with oil for a few days. It was about £70 for both ears and worth every penny. I’d go down this route without hesitation because the relief was instant and fantastic. They seem to have clinics all over the UK

Go to a Chinese clinic for some ear candling.

In my youth I had to get my ears syringed every 3-4 months, thankfully I've now grown out of it which is just as well as my GP surgery now refuses to syringe ears. One bit of advice before anyone try these , is to ensure you soften the wax in the ear for at least a week.

Can also get this done at Boots for £50 which includes repeat visits if it can’t be sorted first time

I use ear candles every couple of years. They work a treat. I get a huge lump of wax out of each ear. Afterwards it feels like you have new ears/hearing.

Or DIY (Hopi ear candles) however there's a plenty of medical authorities who warn against this method.

I've been irrigating my ears for decades through necessity (copious wax producer/dry skin in inner ear/salt water/diving) and use a
Silicone Spiral Removal tool, which is perfect for travelling:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cleaner-NaC...s%2C183&sr=8-5

At home I use a Waterpik Water Flosser, which is not it's intended purpose of course but when used carefully is a really efficient wax remover.

I use something similar. Did mine a couple of weeks ago.

As said make sure you soften the wax for about a week. I use medical olive oil. (Home and bargain)

So satisfying seeing BIG chunks of black wax coming out.

Enough wax for a papal funeral............

I use cotton buds regularly so have pretty clean ears. Had one ear infection in all the years, and prob from foam earplugs on the bike.

That's a good point, thankfully now I rarely have any ear issues, except when I start using foam/silicon earplugs that is.

I always use the Admiral Tug Benson method: works a treat!

Got caught with wax in the ear when I was in Oman just before lock down.
Put olive oil in my ear for a couple of days. Took an empty water bottle and a biro. Cut about an inch of the end of the pen then drilled a small hole in the bottle cap. Pushed the plastic case of the pen through the hole in the cap and you have a syringe to wash the wax out. 2 minutes of skooshing and I could hear a pin drop at 50 paces.
Save yourself a tenner, it works.

I have one of the bulb type similar to the one in that kit. Earex drops for a few days, then gently does it with warm water.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

i used a chemical (not olive oil based) one and it ended up really irritating the skin on my ear and making me more itchy and uncomfortable. Stopped using cotton buds, stopped using the chemicals, booked an appointment with a specialist (£60 for both ears) and she confirmed it wasn't wax that was the problem it was me fucking about with my ears that was making them irritable.

I'd vote specialist based on my experience.

Actually, there is a buschcraft tip using earwax to test the potability of water. If earwax sinks the water 'should' be safe to drink, if it floats then it is probably not safe.

Im disappointed ! after seeing the videos of chunks of wax appearing out of their ears, i had a go with the ear irrigator i bought off ebay.

my partner did my ears first and the water in the collection bowl was as clean and debris free as the water i put in the irrigator spray, and same with my partners ears.
