Data Subject Access question

EDIT: Meant Data Subject Access Request not FoI!!

On another forum (!), I received a PM from the moderator saying that someone else had reported a comment I made as “defamatory”. It quite clearly wasn’t and I asked for the text of the report which they have declined to give me. I wanted to know whether the word “defamatory” was used by the person reporting or whether it was the moderator. Not sure if defamation has to be a public statement but I regard myself as having been defamed by the accusations!

As the report made was about me, do I have a right, under the FOI Act, to know what was said?

Thanks. Was vaguely aware of the general principles but wondered whether a comment about me - using my forum user ID - in a PM from a forum member to a moderator would definitely be covered. Don’t want to look like a plonker demanding something I’m not entitled to!!

I’m not planning legal action but take exception so some **** traducing me for no reason. Would just like to make the point to the moderator/site that they shouldn’t chuck around unfounded accusations.

You can request anything you like that isn't covered by one of the exceptions in the above list. There isn't an exception covering communications about you, that is a lot of the value of SARs.

Perhaps, personally I wouldn't bother.

Trying to reason with some of the moderators on forums is often a futile exercise resulting in them flicking the 'ban' switch which then closes the conversation and (obvs) removes future access.
