Been offered an unpolished 2011 full set with original purchase receipt from original owner for £16.5k. What you guys think?

Can’t see me getting one from the AD I’m on list for anytime soon

It is perfectly normal for a seller to want a high price and for a buyer to want a low price. The answer is either to negotiate or walk away if you don't like it.

Using the SC as some sort of hallowed ground where we all walk around loving and kissing each other and doing mates rates all the time is pure fantasy. Just pop over to the BP and you won't find much evidence of brotherly love. Strangely enough they often fall out because they think one member is screwing another member and until the day arrives when everyone ( and I mean everyone) professes love for every other member, you can kiss the idea of mates rates goodbye.

I came here in 2014 and everyone was at each others throats then, so did the good old days every really exist.

If you can't accept that some watches sell at more than RRP just walk away and spend the money on some other frippery because even if you moan here until you are blue in the face, the price will still remain over RRP.

Well obviously it’s not the ceramic bezel model but I don’t think that looks as good as the original.

Are you planning to buy to wear and enjoy or as an investment?

Personally I’m not interested in paying current market prices but if you plan to wear and enjoy and you have the money then why not?

£1m of Rolexes? What’s that, 100 watches? Big deal. In the current market that takes approximately no effort whatsoever - as indicated by his attitude towards you.

I thought the same about the wealth where I am but, having been to one of the AD open evenings, I was staggered at the number of apparently seriously wealthy individuals and I’m not sure too many were doctors or architects. I think the main money is small businesses and property.

I take a simple approach. Wear and enjoy the watch. That’s the bit that matters. Making money seems drab and tedious. Have fun, get enjoyment, if it gets marked, so what. If owning watches isn’t fun, find a better hobby. Like supporting England…….

Nearly £10,000 more here so looks like a bargain in the current market.

Rather than start another Rolex thread I've a friend who's looking for a 116518LN

    Yellow gold on an oysterflex.

He doesn't mind paying a small premium, any suggestions of where's best to look?

Mappin & Webb are giving him the run around.

Dealers appear to be asking for a £10,000+ premium but not sure what your friend’s definition of “small” is.

What do you mean about M&W? Unless he’s shovelling money at them for other stuff, he’s not likely to get first dibs on a watch he could reportedly immediately sell at a £10,000 profit.

I thought Rolex dealers, authorised ones, are not allowed to accept ‘a small premium’. Its retail price only, although you can get lucky and get a small discount (not premium). I paid straight, standard, retail, no arquing or quibbling. I just took what I was offered, and ‘thank you’. Strange retail days.
Btw: i do think the Oysterflex is a bit of a killer. Will balance very well with a great big chunk of gold.
And ought to be far cheaper (rubber v solid gold)

Sorry I meant a premium from a grey or similar.

    Any recommendations on that front?

His family has decent history with the company and I was under the impression that gold ones are easier to get but then I know very little about Rolex and he’s been told a year or more

I use the date function on a watch. This rules the Daytona out, plus it wears small on my wrist. The prices are absurd.

If I was in the market for one of these I’d be going two-tone

Much better value and easier to get.

I’ve noticed that WF haven’t had any 116520s listed for a while, are they holding then relisting to take a jump in price?

But lots of things in this world are too pricey. So we don’t have to buy them, any of them. I don’t really understand the point, no-one is forced to buy a Daytona. It’s just a little watch. Or how about a big house or a Rolls or diamonds, or……..anything at all. Maybe a yacht? Or a giant jet? On and on.

There is no ‘force’ for most of us, perfectly happy with our normal lives.no one, ever, needs a watch. You all know that……

I’ve heard a rumour that Rolex are looking to pull the stainless steel Daytona in the near future. I wonder what that would do to the current values…

Yes, we can all see that happening as it's clearly not doing anything for Rolex as a brand.

    Not.

I noticed this too, I was looking at them a few months ago there was around 8/9 black ones and no white dials. But they haven’t had any in for a while now which is strange

Just goes to show, never sell a Rolex (certainly not a SS sports model) - well, not until just before the bubble bursts (in the never-never).

I think you're looking at the ceramic 116500 (of which I can see 4), whereas Loupe is talking about the 116520 (of which I can see 1).

When I posted over a week ago there were none in stock, now there’s only one and I’m pretty sure it’s increased in price.

    I think not.

    Take a look at this.

    https://www.watchcollecting.com/?ref...5D=sold&page=1

SS Daytona 3rd line down went for £23,500.

TT Daytona 8th line down went for £10,250.

£23.5k seems relatively cheap when you consider dealer prices.

Don’t forget the buyer premium 6%. Takes it to 25k. If I read that part correctly.

List is £14,000 so that’s surprising - to say the least.

WF offerings all comfortably over list.

    Platinum one for £125,000!!

IMO its way too much. I've stomached paying a small premium for a couple of watches in the past but have just considered that impatience tax and told myself a price increase or two would cover it. 20k over list is a hell of a lot of price increases

Oh don’t be so silly. You know that the post you quoted was referring to the current model, not a 20 year old watch that looks like a tank has driven over it.

Watchfinder don’t list all their stock if they have multiples of any model in their inventory…..sell a few, add few on hold to replace the sold ones. Etc.

The local AD in my town said the demand for the platinum Daytona is crazy. Even at a list of around £60k I think.

Just a couple of weeks ago I bought a gold Daytona, new at standard list direct from a Rolex dealer. Not that I care about any of this, because I will never sell. I don’t care about the money, not in the slightest, . I bought the watch because i wanted one so pretty to my tastes. It’s for me, just me. Never for money.
