    Errrr no!
It’s just a watch and not a very nice looking one at that.
    YMMV.

At £29k I would go white gold.

Worth what people are willing to pay I guess but for me it’s a £10k watch at best.

£29k is the price for people with more money than patience.

Having chased one for 10 years it was my most disappointing purchase ever (and not at drug dealer prices).

I would not purchase one at list now.

Wow! I bought mine in July 2016 and it was £7,950 or £8,050 from memory.

Great watch but not a 29k watch or even close.

It’s a hard pass from me
I can’t see why someone would pay that much

The 1984 Rolex catalogue in Sales Corner shows the Daytona at £725. The Bank of England inflation calculator puts that at £2,400 in today's money. Is the modern watch 5 times better than the eighties version, never mind 12 times?

I paid £2750 for mine in 1997, last week I turned down considerably more for it, so yes it is

I would have to have lost all touch with reality to pay 29k for that. Or any other mass produced watch.

It’s worth whatever someone’s willing to pay for it, probably

To me it’s a little insane that anyone would pay more for steel than PM. But I’m sure some will argue steel is better for day to day, therefore better overall

OP if you have the money and want one then buy it.

For me it's a big fat no as it's too small and difficult to read with my eyes and yes i did try one on at my local AD a few years ago.

Personally I think it’s too much. But I passed on buying one at £13k not that many years ago when I thought that was too dear! What an idiot

Actually like the white one alot, but I prevaricated and missed the boat when they were in my price range and no, can't justify that kind of money.

If you are looking for a portable store of wealth with a max 50%ish downside and the ability to quickly liquidate or make untraceable payments, I’d say Bitcoin is a much better option. If you are looking for a wristwatch the list of better options is vast.

Full White gold go for £38k at the greys and the oysterflex white gold for £34k - so it seems the gold ones are increasing as well - but I guess it’s still a lot closer to MSRP than the steel, so less of a markup…

Man maths. If steel Daytona’s keep creeping up, then gold versions will look ‘better value’ and increase in price. In other words, the price of gold is linked to the price of steel. Can’t see it lasting, but what do I know!

No, not imo. I do wonder how many owners even use the functions of the watch?

Always remember Rolex doesn't want the professional classes of doctors, architects etc. buying their products any more. That's what the Tudor brand is for. Many, many people will gain $30k in minutes, hours or days.

  28. #28
Dealer and instagram hype. In the flesh they really are nothing special, your in Ap and PP price bracket, and you get a lot more for your money.

Would you buy a 10k for 30k just,. because some said it was worth that.

I got some flak paying grey for my ceramic Daytona 3 years ago with people saying the bubble was about to pop . Now it seems over double what I paid

The days of the watches being essential timekeeping devices is long gone. We are in jewellery territory, with many watches never being worn at all due to their value

Agreed. No longer a timekeeping device but jewellery. If you buy it, would you wear? Or as a safe queen?

Not just this one all the steel Daytona are up 30-40% since start of covid, pretty insane. But I still rather have this then a 5711 which is 3x the price.

  33. #33
OP, if you expected a useful answer - shame on you.
It is all a matter of personal preference. If you like it 29K worth and what it right away, then it is not too much to buy. You will certainly not lose a lot if you decide to sell it in short term. Personally speaking, Daytona is not my favorite Rolex sports model and I wouldn’t spend 29k on it. All the talk about jewellery and mass produced SS BS, is just that - rubbish and BS.

I’d probably source a nice 116520 pre ceramic version and have a chunk of cash leftover

Not much chunk of change - a 116520 on chrono24 is now $25-30k.....I bought my mint white dial in July 2016 for £7k!

If you're talking about wearing it, then I'd take the £29k and spend it on 5 watches, have yourself a nice collection.

If you're talking about as an investment (which you must be), then God knows. Ever since people started throwing money into NFTs I lost all sense of what a good store of value is.

I don't really like Rolex and that watch doesn't do anything for me but if I wanted that watch and had £29k to drop on it without breaking a sweat then yes, why not.

Agreed, why just why would you pay more for a Stainless Steel Daytona when you can have white gold for less which have much nicer dials as well.

  42. #42
The only sensible answer is ‘if you think so’. Frankly if I were a premiership footballer on £30k a week it’s worth a weeks wages. It’s a rip-off but I wouldn’t be bothered if I wanted one and it was that ‘cheap’ in comparison to my income.

Putting to one side future residuals, a VC Overseas feels so much more special in that price bracket

Just glanced through a May 1975 catalogue I have and the 6263 was £238!

    Equivalent to £1936 today.

Yup - it's what Rolex think too. No idea why punters are paying 3x for it.

Not too many years ago I tried on a platinum one just to see what it was like to have £50k (the then list) on my wrist. Think that answers your question!
