Great, more COVID doom and gloom……!!

Back to the football. I’d be pretty hopeful England can get the better of Denmark and suspect that if we were to get a few quick goals and control the game (like last night) that Denmark might lose some of their drive. They weren’t at all impressive in their quarter final and to me a number of players looked to be losing their steam/emotionally spent (understandably) too.

Can see Italy and Spain going to penalties after a 2-2 score line.

Denmark, they swept us under the carpet, Was Kane playing that night, wouldn’t have thought so otherwise it would have been a resounding one man whitewash for the Danes.

Dropping Kane would've been like dropping Shearer before Euro 96 (he hadn't scored for England in the 18th months prior to the tournament).

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

It was good to see Sancho causing some problems last night, I've been disappointed with his England performances previously but hope he can give us another option upfront now.

I've also been excited about the prospect of Foden playing for England for years but his international career hasn't really taken off yet. I really thought this might be his tournament but he's on the fringes. Hopefully he'll also realise his potential for England in the near future too. Our strength in depth is great to see.

The Danes will be a tougher opponent on Wednesday. The first goal will be critical and it could be a very tight match.

Excellent game. I'd rather face Italy than Spain (if England qualify) as I think Italy's style will suit England more as Italy will attack and allow England to counter. Hope Chiesa is fit as he has been superb and would be a shame for him to miss out.

Also Dani Olmo for Spain - cracking player

Superbly entertaining game, shame it had to be decided on penalties.

Got to admit I now see the challenge as to take part in our first final since 1966. If we do it's not impossible that we'd win but it's very unlikely. I think we've just seen the final.

I wanted Italy to progress as I have liked watching them transform recently. Yes they have some antics but that is classic and expected, part of their heritage!

However I do fear that they will win it now. They will be all over England if they get there and a England haven’t had that happen to them so far.

Slightly different opinion to Ryan. Italy will attack but they have two legends at centre back who may be able to control.

Maybe I am just being pessimistic. I hope so.

Italy ran out of juice after the Spanish equalised.
I think the pressing game has caught up with them a bit. They will be relieved with an extra day off.
I'd fancy Italy in a match v England if it wasn't at Wembley but the huge crowd will level that out should England make it.
Hopefully tomorrow nights game is as good.
Nice to watch as a neutral.

What a cracking game. As it wore on was thinking I would probably rather play Italy - Spain were looking scarily good, and the Italians seemed to run out of steam. But both looked levels above anything we’ve come across so far

Tomorrow night wont be anywhere near as enjoyable as that one, expecting it to involve plenty of arse clenching terror. Just got to get through it!

I feel Bonucci and Chiellini are there to be got at if fast attackers pull them wide and get behind them. Youd have to think Saka/Sancho/Grealish/Sterling would have a field say against that Italian backline. The stupid thing would be to play in front of them as they would clean up defensively but pull them to the side and it could be good for England.

This might be a good time for England to bow out with as little collateral damage as possible? There can’t be many Danish restaurants to smash up or other obvious targets for mindless thuggery?
    What nationality is the referee?

While all the ‘it’s coming home’ stuff is quite endearing fans have been singing it for 25 years and it obviously hasn’t even put the postcode in the sat nav let alone able to read a map, what’s different this time? Golden generation? Blend of youth and experience? A settled spine down the middle with added flair?

If I may, very belatedly, answer Rob's question in regards to tonight's upcoming game.

My brain wishes England the best. I really dislike the ABE (Anyone But England) view that is sometimes espoused by the more parochial of my fellow countrymen. However I appreciate and like the Danes, having been there a couple of times. Sandi Toksvig is of course a living legend, never mind the philosophers, the art, musicians - Buxtehude is a favourite and so on.

And yet when, I think it was Müller, who missed an open goal in the Germany game, I was shouting abuse at him for being useless.

Let us say then that I am conflicted.

IF England were to do well and possibly win the whole thing, AND there could be a general promise, that nobody would go on and on and on about it like that thing in 1966, I would be able, wholeheartedly to support England. That is of course entirely unrealistic.

I hope therefore, that the best team wins.

May I assume that your allegiances lie with another home nation?

Football's coming home was orignally about a tournament being played in England, thus "coming home" to where football started. And it caught on and is now sung by England fans for all tournaments especially on the rare occasions we do ok. Singing it doesn't mean that England fans think the trophy is as good as won, far from it.

And the difference this time is belief and strength in depth, this England team isn't playing like the previous generations, however, tournament football is extremely difficult (ask Belgium) and we could easily lose tonight, but there is a also genuine chance of getting to a final and then anything can happen.

English born and bred, (sometimes shift support to Ireland/Poland depending on sport)

Just can’t bear the pissed up ‘fans’ and all the jingoism/chest beating/misplaced nationalism and lack of perspective on what amounts to a ‘nearly but not quite’ team and all the crap that goes with it.
Imagine having to say to your partner to be careful coming home tonight because England lost to your mother country.
Football seems to attract bell-ends more than any other sport.

I agree, the downside of a lot of sports, but football does seem particularly affected.

In previous matches Saka was the man that opened up the opposition defences, Denmark have got him well marked.
