They didn't deserve the win. Did well to get so far but the best team won

    The Euros 2020

I generally don’t watch football as I have no interest in it but I did watch the penalty shootout.
Now maybe I’m wrong (as I don’t watch the game) but I thought the idea of penalties was to smash it into the back of the net as hard as you can.
Those three missed penalties by the English lads looked very weak.
Shame as I wanted England to win.

    Well done lads.
Completely agree, think they will come back a lot stronger from this.

A great tournament for England even if the aftertaste is a little sour. A very good young team and a brilliant coach, who made one serious mistake that probably cost you victory. Not a good idea to take in three very young guys for the last couple of minutes and put them under such pressure when they’re cold. A bold move but in retrospect not too wise. Give all these guys a few more years and wonders can happen.

Tonight Italy was better, well done and congratulations!

Not sure I agree with that even though I did want them to.

No doubt England did well to get where they did.

Yup just not quite good or hungry enough despite home court/crowd advantage.

Sorry for the team and for the genuine fans.
But the others (and that includes politicians) would have been insufferable for the next 2 weeks -at least!

Fair result I think, better team overall won. My daughter couldn’t understand why I wasn’t too fussed if England won, and maybe a little pleased they didn’t. I’ve now got her watching Saka’s social media feeds and she completely understands. Thousands of posts already, mostly monkey emojis and calls for him to “get out of our country.” If those people are unhappy then this is a very good result in my eyes.

Some England fans let us down, just like ‘some’ Scotland fans let them down etc. No need to tarnish us all with the same brush.
I’m proud of this team, showing solidarity, taking the knee against the wishes of most of the press and government.
I wish them all well going forward.

    Gutted.

At least we matched them until the end - though they did pressure us in the 2nd half a lot more than we should have allowed them to....

Feel really sorry for Rashford, Sancho and Saka - especially the first 2, as it was a big ask to just come in for the penalties. Hope that they come back stronger from the experience.

It was a good game but again, I thought the refereeing was a bit inconsistent.

Don't follow football at all and would feel a bit of a phoney starting to follow during the Euros. All I can think about is the price we'll pay in setting back our covid situation because if this tournament.

Anyway, well done England for getting as far as they did.

The end result was predictably inevitable. I Whatsapped a friend to say England to lose 4-5 on penalties before the game started. Such is life.

They're a good young team and have a future. So be happy and positive.

For us, Dutch, a penalty shoot-out is a nightmare as well. I know what you guys feel. And it is Italy.

I don't hate England it is awesome. London is the greatest city on earth. It genuinely is I've lived everywhere. I just hate racist cnuts who boo opposition anthems or boo black lives matter knee taking. That's only some of the people.

You're right...you may be wrong. And you are.

Having said that, Rashford had clearly been to the Paul Pogba school of penalty taking before that effort, which is just next door to the Christopher Biggins Mixed Martial Arts Academy

Ryan have you watched football in Europe in European stadiums and stood in the home end? I was in Istanbul when Galatasaray won the Europa league against Arsenal trust me there was a lot more than "Booing the national anthem" Going on by the thousands of ultras in Uskudar square. You are aware of course of the Czechs treatment of Kamara and their staunch defence of their racist player right? You seem to think a few booing a national anthem or taking the knee is some representation of every English football supporter.

I despise them more than anything too but why do you think they represent all England fans? Italy is a far more racist country than England so your alligence is misplaced. Racism in Italian league is rife.

Doesn’t taste sour at all, in fact our defeat tonight’s shows the real bellends for what’s they are. Yeh they lost but who in all honest could say that they would stand their and not have the pressure of the nation on them. Fact remains the better team won, awful way to go out but hey we got there....unlike a whole a lot of other teams. So good to see a whole host of people belittling the country they live. Surely if you hate it here that much to comment the way you do why not f**k off and support the team you so wish England were tonight.

Exciting game, but the violence was disgusting. Very disappointing although of course predictable albeit from a very small number.

England I feel punched above their weight and did very well to get to final. Italy just keep rolling.

Didn’t deserve it in the end. Scored too early and tried to hang on for 88mims which was never gonna work out. Came back into in ET but once it went to pens we were done for.

Can’t knock any of the lads that took them, they have some bottle, we just don’t have enough good penalty takers to win a shootout. Said to my mates we wouldn’t score more than 3, unfortunately even that was too optimistic.

I doubt the Italians booed their own NA, but you can categorically state only the English fans booed the taking of the knee?
Can you prove no Italians booed the taking of the knee?
Its also ironic your Avatar shows a STOP racism sign, yet you flagrantly use names like ‘Gammon’ to stereotype a perceived group of National people.

Couldn't agree more. Can't stand people who purely watch football to see another team lose, especially when they're still prepared to reap the benefits of living here. Embarrassing and pathetic in the extreme

I couldn't care less about football but even if I was into it supporting Ireland is setting yourself up for disappointment.
