    IPnone 12 and IOS 14.6

Having upgraded my 2017 iPhone SE last November, I have noticed that the battery health is now at 98% having dropped from 100% just in the last couple of weeks. My iPhone SE was still showing 94% after four years usage. I am not a heavy user and am somewhat surprised by this.

This decline in battery health for the latest iPhone has also been raised on Macrumors forum and I'm wondering if any users here have noticed the same issue.

Additionally, it has also been noted that, since downloading the latest iteration of IOS, battery life on many iPhones has been noticeably reduced. Again, have any users come across the same issue?

One factor is possibly that after an update, the iPhone continues doing update stuff in the background, and until this is complete, it will use more battery power. Personally I have never seen power issues after any update.

The battery capacity in my iPhone 12 (a few months old) is 100% and I am on iOS 14.6
Maybe they changed/improved the algorithm for determining battery capacity.

    Thanks for this.

I've never seen any issues following an update before either which made me think this is unusual.

There has been a suggestion that some iPhone12s may have defective batteries,
as battery health of as low as 90% has been reported on MacRumors. This doesn't sound right for a 6 month old phone at all.

Let's hope it's not true and a further update will address this.

I have noticed reduced battery life. Usually in the evening I had at least 50% battery, nowadays it is 25-30% with the same usage. I installed public beta, but the battery still drains like crazy.

My 18 month old iPhone 11 was showing 98% , there was an announcement that 14.6 had a new algorithm- not sure that’s the correct word I’m not a techie - and for a couple of weeks after the upgrade the battery life section said ‘we are currently assessing your battery health’ and it now reads as 96%. I assume the new software just assesses it more accurately. If it gets to 80% I’ll get a new battery but chances are by then I’ll have a new phone so a non issue imho

    I’ve a 12proMax dated Nov 2020 it’s used heavily everyday and is at 96% running 14.2.1
My 6plus from 2014 was likewise heavy use on 12.9 and 80%

Watching this with interest, I’ve a three year old iPhone SE and I’m
lucky to get about 4 hours out it.. the phone now randomly turns itself off and also takes random pictures when I try to use it normally. I’m coming round to the fact that they are disposable and won’t last more that 3-4 years.

I’m on a student budget but need a new phone, seriously tempted to move away from iPhone as it’s beyond my financial means.. apologies if been discussed before but I’m very sceptical of Apple, and I’ve had their phones for about the last 10 years.
