    Brecon Beacons - Holiday Tips

I am starting a new job at the beginning of July and have managed to secure 4 nights stay at a rental in Llandeilo, on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons in Wales before I start, at the end of June.

It is just the wife and I. We are not hikers or ramblers but do appreciate outdoor beauty with mountains and sea.

For those in the know, can you recommend:
    1. Places to visit eg landmarks or areas of beauty etc
    2. Places for lunch
    3. Places for dinner

    Thanks

    Llanthony priory is very pretty.

I often start there for big walks into the Black Mountains, although I’m sure there are shorter less depending walks there as well.

There is a small quant hotel there which I think has a café and bar but check with the restrictions.

Felinfach Griffin is lovely for lunch/dinner if you are over towards the east side.

You and your wife need to purchase one of these each:

When you get them, fill them full of bricks and soak them in the bath. I recommend eating just garibaldi biscuits for the five days and, for ultimate authenticity, you could pay a Welsh farmer to shoot at you from a distance.

I was going to suggest getting somebody to hose you down every time you leave the cottage but the weather will take care of that.

Well worth a visit for a meal, ale and accommodation.

Add a bit of sun stroke to add authenticity and they’ll have it cracked ?????

If you do drop in at Llanthony (which is really lovely), that would lead on nicely to drive onwards through to Hay Bluff for a short stroll and then onto Hay on Wye for wander around and an ice cream. If you are exploring further afield, The Stagg Inn at Titley is great for lunch or dinner - but not open all week, so pick your day carefully.

Try to drive at a speed somewhere close to the posted speed limits. Locals find it a touch annoying to be following tourists who are seemingly lost and travelling at around half the speed or less that is allowed.

I enjoyed just riding through the centre of the park avoiding the sheep.

Stopping every so often just to take in the views and feel of the place.

The mountains maybe small but look glorious in moody light.

How I wish I could hike some of it,if you are reasoably fit I would walk at least some of the easier trails.

Thanks all. Any recommendations for places to eat, either near Llanelli or by the coast ?
