Question re durability of Whitby jet (jewellery)

I know there is a huge range of knowledge on the forum and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how suitable Whitby jet is as a material for a signet ring (sitting in the centre of a silver surround).
Would it be suitable for swimming/showering and the normal type of daily wear and tear? Thanks
