Yep, South Gare (Redcar area), specifically next to Paddy's Hole, which is a collection of fishermans huts.

I travelled up from London earlier this week as I'm working on a project aimed at redeveloping the former steelworks site, and took my Brompton on the train along to explore the area as I don't like to just sit in the hotel.

Specifically wanted to visit Paddy's Hole as it was the site for the Portrait Artist of the Year Competition on Channel 4. Cycled from South Gare to, and then stayed in Saltburn. Love the area and the weather was very warm and kind. In between work it felt I like I was on holiday. A couple of less blury images.

    Vienna then?

Can't remember what the building with the three (1 + 2) towers is called (some art museum if I recall?), the park looks like Volksgarten?

Rotate by 180 degrees and you can see the pavillon.

The picture was taken above the former church of the Holy Trinity on Kingsway. Now called Aviation House, the building opposite is Africa House

Ahh, it was the Shard in the background. I feel much better knowing that I didn't know it after all (if that makes any sense), thank you.

Never been on a stag do. Anyhow that building is a former jail. There’s a museum adjacent to it, dedicated to the victims of Communism. The jail overlooks the sea.

...and it all is in a city that has long suffered from being overrun by English people on their stag-dos.

    Patarei Prison in Tallinn...
I thought that courtyard looked familiar when you posted your photos yesterday.
Am I right to assume that the museum has been done up recently?
Just asking because I used to live in Tallinn ~10 years ago - back then this was one grim place, very claustrophobic.

You got it. As did Raffe. The museum is a sobering experience indeed. There’s a lot of new development taking place around the prison, both retail and residential.

    No takers.

    It's in Playa Blanca Lanzarote.

    From Trip Advisor:

"This life sized statue, with an anonymous face, stands facing out to sea, enclosed by a chain fence.

To the rear of the statue there is a plinth with a plaque on it, the inscription on the plaque, in Spanish and English, explains what the statue is about.

It pays hommage to the previous generations of Canarians (the ancestors) who were mostly illiterate. However, through their hard work and dedication they encouraged their children to improve their education and resources which led to the development of the region.

It acknowledges that they contributed to the level of well-being and development of the region that the current generation enjoy."
