Thread: Tropic strap for a 14060 sub?

Tropic strap for a 14060 sub?

I bought a tropic strap a while back. The lug holes are particularly close to the case on the 14060 and the wedge shape of strap doesn’t clear the case when rotating. Catches slightly on the SD but not as badly. Does anyone know of a decent quality tropic where the strap rolls over at the lugs to give more clearance? It’s never stated in the specs or visible in pics.

Ive looked a few times over the years and im afraid Ive never found one either. The lug hole location on a 14060 is pretty different from a 5513\1680 etc

    Would curved spring bars help?
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

Possibly, will give it a try. Do curved bars work ok with drilled lugs and as secure as straight ones?

I don’t see why, in that respect, they should be any different to normal ones. I have curved bars on a couple of watches with leather straps and, over time, the leather forms around the curve - I suppose the downside of rubber is that it will always spring back to the form that it was manufactured to be. Let us know how you get on if you go down that route.

Tropic strap for a 14060 sub?

As above comments. JB do fit pretty well on my 14060 although this one is blue. Lovely quality rubber though.

I believe (but could be wrong) that the Joseph Bonnie straps are made by Juelong that are sold directly on Aliexpress

    https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800908863562.html

Juelong also make straps for Strapcode and a couple of other 'higher end' branded rubber straps

I have a few from Juelong and the quality is fantastic.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I’m going to take a punt on Vortex89’s recommendation and order from Juelong.

Another shout out for Juelong, I've got an array of tropic style, Isofrane style and vintage straps from them in FKM rubber and they are excellent quality for the money. They usually arrive in a week or so with free postage.

The JB Tropics don’t look the same as the Ali Express versions to me.

I had the JB Tropic and it rubbed on my 14060m. No doubting the quality though.

Like most, I’ve had countless of the cheaper versions of these straps and they simply don’t compare to the genuine vintage versions.

The JB and “new” Tropic brand are the closest you will get to the original.

The JB and Wolbrook straps are the same and the best available, in my opinion but the brand above are very good also.

I’ve tried them all on my 14060m and they all rub.

I bought a couple of Juelong straps on the back of this thread (mainly because JB don't make an 18mm orange tropic). I can't comment on whether Juelong make for JB but the ones they sell on Aliexpress are not the same quality; they are certainly a notch up from the cheapies that Cousins sell but they are thicker and not as soft or flexible as JB. The other detail is the colour (I'm specifically talking about orange); the shade of orange is paler than JB but at least they don't demonstrate the slightly washed-out, slightly milky appearance of the cheapest tropics.

Currently trying to stop myself from buying one of these for the summer...

    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
