Thread: Which Oud?

    Which Oud?

    Morning All,

Looking for a new Oud so thought i would ask those in the know. I currently have the Acqua Di Palma Oud and Creed Royal Oud. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Harrods is full of them. All the big names have multiple offerings to choose from now.

I saw Mehdi Haddab perform once at a Womad festival. They call him the Hendrix of the electric oud.

Tom Ford oud wood from the private collection. Superb in my opinion, probably one of the best ouds. On a lighter budget Tom Ford Noir bears a similar, less complex, similarity (in my opinion anyhow)

I can’t stand oud but had the creed royal oud which I loved but didn’t think it smelt anything like oud

Selfridges in Manchester is our nearest store for a good selection of fragrances however as you have stated there a large quantity to chose from. The problem is i end up not being able to smell anything as consequence of the vast choices. Hence wanting a few pointers

  8. #8
Sure and I did think that at the time of replying. Doh

I bought the ADP oud that you have for my brother. It's probably on the very strong end of the scale

I think Christian Dior have some nice ones from their expensive range but I haven't looked into details because I don't need any ATM. I bought 250ml (I think) of Tom ford wood for a crazy high amount of money in duty free a few years back. I used it a fair bit and still have a lot left.

MFK do a good range of oud fragrances .

I'm a big fan of Oud - I pretty much exclusively use Montale, whose range is extensive and range from the intense to the more mellow - https://montaleparfums.com/en/

Check out Maison Lancôme Oud Bouquet... the wife and I share it. Probably my all time favourite scent and lasts ages.
Dior Oud Ispahan is also top notch.

An older scent that was good value for money at the time (if you can track a bottle down) is Tiger Oud from Roberto Cavalli. Although seems that it’s rare these days and sellers are wanting top dollar (I’ve got a couple of bottles stashed away).

If you have a Le Labo store near you, also worth popping in to try a few of their scents. They do an Oud, but in September they release their city editions ... and their Dubai scent is lovely. Only sell them in September though.

I have a 50/50 mixture of oud and sandalwood knocked up by a very nice chap in Berlin - it just needs a small dab. Whilst the website seems to have been designed in the 1990s, re-assuringly the shop feels more like entering the 1950s and the concept originated in the 1920s.

    Depends on budget.

No limit? Oud Wood by Tom Ford. You can get a 10ml atomiser for £35 ish before you blow £200

Lower budget? Dunhill Icon Absolute. Loads of sellers on EBay £40 for 100ml

  16. #16
Gents thanks for all your suggestions on this. Ive ordered a load of samplesand working my way through. In the interim i picked up Tom Ford F@@king Fab of demon loop which is rather nice and a bit different.

Love Creed Royal Oud, but as you say there's not much actual oud going on. Am also in the market, so watching this thread with interest.

Got a sample of the Oud wood its nice but not grown on me yet.

i purchased Icon absolute as a daily and that seems decent enough for very little money

I genuinely thought this thread would be about musical instruments and am disappointed to find it's actually in a foreign language.

    Ensar Oud

If your bank account is like a bottomless pit try Ensar Oud - https://ensaroud.com.
Even if you don't buy anything its an excellent source of what real oud is all about through his blogs and posts.

A great site and a very interesting read. I must admit until I read this post I never heard of oud!

But $3500 for 3G I’ll stick to my old spice or hai karate.

    Cheers, Shaun

You will probably like the Miami scent as well then.
I tried 3 different Le Labo counters last week to see if I could purchase either Dubai or Miami but they all said that they aren’t selling it until September. Strange that it’s available online.

I’ll probably pop back in Sept to have another niff of them all as they will have their samples out.

Just resurrecting this thread as i'm looking for a new fragrance now. Was in Selfridges at the weekend but smelt to much so did not end up coming away with anything!

Have you looked at the Molton&Brown offerings? I bought bottle each of their Mesmerising Oudh Accord and Re-charge Black Pepper before Christmas.

A few that I rate are.

Oud for greatness by Inito Parfums, Oud Orange Intense by Fragrance Du Bois, Haltane by Parfums De Marly and Oud Edition by Montale.

2 of my favourites at the moment are technically both 'clones' though they are good enough in their own right and last most of the day.

    lattafa oud for glory
    charuto tobacco vanille

Evey time I see this thread title I marvel at the sophistication of the TZ-UK community. Then I remember it's not about Middle Eastern stringed instruments.

Oud is an odd fecal scent. I wonder why animalistic scents are so popular? I do enjoy my oud shaving soap from lothur soaps.

    https://www.lothurgrooming.com/shop/p/namkha

The nearest fragrance I have is aoud lemon and mint from Mancera. Not pure oud but I love it!
