New car tyres required............recommendations needed

Had my Caddy (not a van as such, it’s a converted into a WAV) serviced and first MOT today and had advisory on all 4 corners, not so much wear although they are between 3 and 4.5mm but all have cracking in the rubber.

So, with my annual mileage around 6k a year, mainly town driving with the odd spat up the motorway for watch trades Im after a long lasting and quiet tyre (the car echoes road noise through the back as it’s been converted and its like a big sound box). Don’t need huge amounts of grip as I’m a very sedate kind of driver.

So where should my money go? Cost not too important but don’t want spend PZero money obviously.

If your keeping the van worth every penny, they wear well and pound for pound they’re are the best there is.

Agree. I was sceptical at first but was amazed at the difference when I fitted some.

Got general grabbers at3 on my t5 had them on most of my cars/vans over years,highly rate them as give grip in all conditions.

I'm currently using Goodyear Efficientgrip performance tyres. Quiet, good grip, fuel efficient and reasonably priced at around £60. Seem to last well too.

Some of the best reviewed tyres at the moment are Continental Premium Contact 6 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5

They are reasonably priced as well

Another vote for Cross Climates. Superb all year round, especially in typical British weather. Unless you have very specific requirements or a very high performance car I would suggest these are the default choice at the moment.

I’m torn between Michelin Primacy 4 and Crossclimate+, I’m leaning towards the Crossclimates though because I like the tread pattern, is that sad or what. Lol.

Had Primacy 4 tyres on a previous car, lovely tyre. Not ultra high performance but great ride quality and feel (for a diesel barge!)

Had Crossclimates on my Yeti and loved them.

They do seem a bit excessive for mainly local bimbling and the occasional bit of motorway though. I guess it depends if the caddy is driven like a race car or not.

Regards buying, getting the right price for tyres is a nightmare. I recently bought a pair of Pirellis for the Superb (it came with them, I've had no problem with them, so went for same again). Skoda garage quoted £414 for the pair so I laughed and checked Blackcircles and they came in at a far more acceptable £346. Bit more digging and, having looked on the Pirelli website, it looked like I could get them a little cheaper at the local KwikFit...

Went to KwikFit and asked and yes, they had them in stock, but not at the price I'd seem online as that was the online price. If I wanted the online price I had to get on my phone and buy them online...

So I went on my phone and, while I could get a better price on the KwikFit site, it wasn't as low as I'd previously seen... so I went back to the Pirelli site...

And then noticed that as well as a lower price the pirelli site had a buy 2 get 10% off code, so the 2 tyres that started out at £414 eventually cost £280.80

I buy from Camskill tyres and are able fit myself but some small indie garages will fit for reasonable amounts, an option worth looking, I fitted Pilots sports to my Honda, Camskill supplied 4 for less than Kwik Fit quoted for 2 fitted.
