Here is a Youtube clip from Bark and Jack about the new 36mm Explorer. The man is a definite fan of the 36mm models but he admits that the new model is the one to have.

I’m down for one - I was told one to two years.
Below is from the video.
It’s too small.

It will be interesting to see how it wears with the increased taper,

I went to pick up the gold steel version last week and turned it down. I was wearing my 126231 at the time and thought it looked and felt much smaller.
I'll stick with the 114270
And the two-tone version is just weird:
I wanted to love this watch but it would wear far too small for me. The 16mm taper on my 14060m often seems too small for me. Ah well!
Nice video. Hopefully will see this in person soon enough.
Should be more available than most SS models purely on size.
shots in that video show the older and new 36mm side by side, newer seems to wear noticeably smaller thanks to the 19mm lug width and tapered bracelet. a strange decision for them to make, given that 36mm is already on the smaller side by today's standards.
Perfect Rolex case size! Not sure about bracelet though. Was convinced they’d kept the classic 20 - 16mm.
There are quite a variety of different wrist sizes. Correspondingly, there are a variety of different bracelet sizes. Yet it appears to be a source of endless fascination. Rolex know what sells, and my guess would be around 38-40. But there is a large female market, and that will be 36-34 . My partner has a 34 0P and it looks excellent on a normal size woman. Apparently, it’s a big, lucrative, market.
With fashion, there will be a constant fluctuation. I wear 42mm and it seems normal, just what you are used to.
Like clothes fashions. there is no steady answer.
My father bought a 28mm watch (Mondia) in 1942 and wore it every day until he died in 1971. After years of shortages and rationing it was considered unbecoming to flash your wealth about so watches were small and slim. The 39mm Explorer that I am currently wearing would have been considered a spivs watch, the sort of bloke you just could not trust.
But fashions do change and the one thing that would cause the value of modern Rolex to sink is a return to small watches. We have to be honest, although Rolex are a brilliant watch, there is a touch of loudness about them due to their size and bling.
Case size is very much down to what you are used to and I'm pretty sure most people could get used to a 36mm case size. I had a 114270 for years and I always found it to be the perfect size on my 7 inch wrists. Fast forward to today and I now have a small collection of much bigger watches. When I put my 37mm Grand Seiko on (very similar in size to a 36mm Explorer) for the first time in a while it does feel small but in time it starts to look normal. The same happens the other way too. I switched to a Linde Werdelin this week and it felt comedy big but a few days in and it feels normal again.

Does look too small, especially with the thinner bracelet and baby version of the clasp. I suspect B&J would’ve loved it no matter what they did.
Nice strap would be the solution for me.
Won’t even try to like the bracelet.
Nice watch, but the bracelet looks odd, at least in the video. I think the 20-16 looks more appropriate.

I think it looks great. For me, it is the best watch in the current Rolex lineup.
What am I missing about the bracelet? Isn't it the same size as the 114270?

A bit like the 39mm version I suspect it will look better in photos than on. The taper on the bracelet is extreme and will make it wear like a 34 because it’s not a true 36mm case.
I think for the first time, the 36mm OP is the watch to have over the explorer.
So what size is the bracelet then? The 114270 is 20mm-16mm.
I’m a huge fan of the 36mm. I really hope I can land one soon. Got in touch with my AD hours after it was announced. Will follow up my interest soon
It does look smaller than the original 36mm.
Also, it may have been just the lighting but in several shots, it looked like the dial was dented inwards around the central post?

When I saw the announcement I just assumed they would start remaking the 114270 with a new movement.
Thinning down the bracelet seems an odd move but who knows how those guys think ... will sell so who cares.
Anyone had first hand experience with approximate wait times? Put my name down for one at a Goldsmiths I have purchase history with. The sales assistant was lovely, and incredibly helpful, but said she honestly had no idea how long I might be waiting.
Considering the watch was only release 2 months ago, I think I can speak for anyone with first hand experience in saying the wait time was under 2 months
Unfortunately, I suspect that does not represent the full story! Anecdotally it seems Rolex is a crap shoot, some folk stick their name down for a Sub and it turns up 2 months later with no prior history, others report waiting years with no luck despite previous purchases.
Picked mine up last week from my local AD, with no previous spend history. Couldn’t be happier with the watch, it’s beautiful.
I bought the 214270 39mm version last year which I love, although I understand the purists think it should always have remained 36mm.
I have been rather surprised by the sharp increase in advertised used prices since it was discontinued.
Maybe the fact that it only had a 5 year run might make it a future 'rarity' (as much as anything is a rarity considering the volumes made).
Having difficulty finding one in London, my local WoS branch are telling me that they haven't received any new releases but don't expect this new Explorer to be popular.
So is it 19mm the actual lug width, or the first link?
19 to 14 taper excluding end link and clasp?
As ever, looking at pics on a computer screen is pointless and about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Until you see the thing in the flesh you know now't.
Thinking about it, an Explorer in exactly the right size might just be the most appealing watch in the entire Rolex collection. That’s a situation they might want to avoid given that it’s the entry level sports offering. Lucky for anyone that fits the previous or new model, but for the rest of us it feels like they’re trying extremely hard to avoid making one that’s perfect.
