    Summer Coat / Jacket

I know there are one or two style gurus here. I'm looking for a smart / casual lightweight coat - the sort of thing that can be worn if it turns chill whilst eating outside but a bit smarter than down the pub
I'm not certain what I want exactly (helpful ) but I know I don't want an anorak shell - I've already got a goretex Berghaus. Neither do I want the formality of a rain coat. I'm also not keen on wax coatings.
Ideally would like it to be waterproof'ish. Budget up to £175 or thereabouts

Thanks for that, unfortunately not keen on the quilted look and I'm too old for a bomber jacket
I'm sure something will stand out. It's always much easier for me to say what I don't like rather than what I do

I'm stereotypically middle aged and boring

Then why ask what age he is? :) A Harrington is always a good option. The Community Clothing version seems like a good choice: https://communityclothing.co.uk/coll...=6978723348534 but there are many more out there.

+1 for the quality, I bought one of their Harringtons last year. It’s now my favourite jacket. A tad on the expensive side though!

It’s impossible to say. One man can rock a look that would look shite on another. Let your wardrobe be a reflection of your character or what you find comfortable and never put yourself in a box

Have to agree with this and 100thmonkey's previous post as well - don't let your age, society or a forum dictate to you what you can wear. How clothes look depend on many things, your shape and how they fit being one of them.

Have you looked at the Ben Sherman website? They do many nice jackets, some Harrington and also field jackets etc which might suit you

Baracuta Harrington jacket- subscribe on site as loads of VIP sales with at least 30% off.
Check out TK Maxx online as some good makes on there like Paul & Shark, Peregine etc all well within your budget and easy return to shop.

This is a really interesting company, headed up by Patrick Grant the fella off the BBC Sewing competition, they only do very basic (read classic) styles using UK factories when they are quiet. Many of these factories make the real versions for the big brands and then do a slightly tweaked version for CC when they have no orders.

Others I'd be looking at are all a bit more expensive, but for completeness, Private White, HebTroCo & McNair Shirts. All UK made & top quality stuff.

Bought my dad a John Lewis Harrington. Under a ton, shower proof, well reviewed, supposedly fits quite large.

He told me it was tight and uncomfortable. Medium build, size L, I'm surprised.

Steve McQueen, James Dean, timeless jacket for all ages. Just try one on first!
