    Very first 16610LV

    Hi folks

I'm no Rolex scholar, however, I have read that every early LV came with a green tag saying 16610LV at the very least. Ie even if the papers and case back sticker only read 16610, the green tag said 16610LV.

    Is this correct?

It is correct, although the tags were not always given out and many are otherwise lost.

From memory the tag would bear a white sticker printed with a bar code, unique watch case number above and 16610LV 93250 below (the latter being the bracelet code).

Yes, genuine green tags are doctored with fake stickers, albeit normally obvious if you are familiar with the real ones.

The maxi dial will be a good indicator that it is an original LV. Only a very small number of classic, black trim 16610LN models will have naughtily but successfully been retro-fitted with the unique type of LV dial.

Also, the very first LVs had a Y serial number but soon changed to F.

That one doesn’t look over 5 ticks or oval o.

So on the picture which came first, the photo one or the actual Watch. The spacing of the Swiss Made is different, so I'm guessing one is a later watch.

    The joys of minor details...

Edit: or is that what 5 ticks is? Either way the two watches are different dials.

You’’d like to think the Mk1 came first, but Ive had very early F’s with Mk1 and MK2 dials I’ve even had a D serial with a Mk1 dial and flat 4 insert

That's the joy of enthusiasts putting everything in order like it was intended to be like that, when in reality the guys on the production line just used the stock allocated to them and when they were running low probably just shouted out for more.

Mark 3 dial with flat 4.
I’ve only seen 4 other examples with this configuration and all are F3 serials.

I found another mark 3 with flat 4 on Parker’s website.
    They are getting more common.
    Nice price…

Did the very first LV Rolex showed not have lug holes?
