I was looking for a quick chrono fix and thought I might try yet another Seagull 1963, which would be my 10th or something
Anyway, the Belgian site Seagull 1963 is a go to and I duly begin ordering but then notice that all taxes are included in the price. Expecting it to correct at checkout I went through the process but same price.
I'm not willing to risk getting stung for UK tax as well as Belgian/EU tax so I cancelled and got in touch with the seller.
Am I right that the Belgian tax should be removed at checkout?

In theory, yes the seller should have the ability to remove VAT before sending to the UK. However in practice, a lot of sellers aren't bothering as it's simply too much hassle for them, and for items under the £135 (?) threshold, they have to act as unpaid tax collectors for the UK government. Sadly a lot of sellers are unlikely to care if we get hit with double VAT. Another one of these Brexit bonuses we hear about, I guess.

Order direct from China via AliExpress for half the price and delivery in 10 days. You can choose the strap, whether you want the 38mm or 40mm case, sapphire or acrylic crystal and you can even add a swan-neck regulator for an extra 25 quid. It'l probably even slip under the VAT radar.

It might not slip under the VAT radar, Ali Express collect VAT at point of sale for items under £135, and if it's over that then depending on how the package is marked, it might get through untouched by Customs. They do recognise the packaging used by Ali Express though and they do open more of them now than before due to a lot of them being under-declared...
Did these start off at 36mm?

I think they did many years ago when they were a limited edition. I see they now do a 40mm to sit between the 38mm and the 42mm.
This is the way. Now I'm tempted too!
Double VAT is a real problem and you won't get it back.
