I'm not sure it's fair to level the 'overpriced' criticism just at Ming as it applies to the whole watch world in general which is at times a little bit gross in it's excess. I find it hard to justify spending money on watches that have appreciated so much over recent years that they sell for many many times what the manufacturers priced them at when brand new. I'm so annoyed that I missed out on getting a 16710 back in 2014/15 when they were £3.5k for a minter.

Interesting that William Massena had put his name to these, I would not have thought this was his style of watch given my little knowledge of him over the last 20 odd years on TZ. I guess that is not necessarily relevant though, it is all about marketing a product that you believe will sell.

They’re not doing their reputation any favours by still not informing people of whether they’ve “won”. Pretty shambolic

They’ve not said that. But if that’s’s their attitude then it’s lazy.

They have said that - you'll only be told that you can buy one, you'll not be told that you can't.

Furthermore, you will NOT be notified if you have NOT been selected. Only winning customers will be contacted.
Part of the reason for this is going to be that not everyone who's told they can buy one, will buy one. So then Ming will need to go back to the main pool of people to select a new buyer.

It's sort of in the email, but not really! You'll only see that information if you go to the link JPCain86 noted was provided in the email: https://www.massenalab.com/random-draw/

There's still a minimum of 150 people to be contacted and that's if the first 50 all take ming up on the offer to buy.

The first couple of runs were refreshing and had the novelty value. Now it is just too much of the same thing and people who missed out in the beginning trying to catch the next big one. Unless the style evolves (which it may very well might), it runs the risk of becoming last month’s flavour. It is not an iconic design that is going to stand the test of time.

Still looking for a Ming diver though:-)

What you'll find even funnier is a honey dial has been pre flipped to someone for $30k and this is a $2.7k RRP watch.

No way can that be right! I won't be wearing mine if its worth anything near that. I always wear my watches but these can't be worth more than RRP for me.

Absolutely no way the honey dial won't sell for at least 4x RRP and the black dial 2-3x. These are seriously limited watches and far less limited Mings routinely sell for 2x RRP.

The $30k deal (if true) I would imagine is someone who didn't get success at the lottery and will pay whatever it takes to get it in their collection and probably there aren't many of these people.

Let's see tomorrow/friday as the US buyers will receive theirs first as the watches are shipped from the US - suspect some people 'won't bond' with their watches tomorrow and Chrono24 will be interesting....

Oh and if anyone got a honey dial on the basis of this tip (and not because they were already receiving Ming's emails) and they do sell for $30k, mine's a double brandy please :)

I see mine is already at Stansted, looks like they were shipped yesterday and so should be delivered tomorrow. Blimey. I suspect some must have arrived with US buyers today as they were shipped from New York

I’m sure there will be a number on Chrono24 at bold prices to test the market

I’m not sure the recent Kurono experience is directly comparable but the initial Chrono24 prices had to adjust downward quite substantially.

Watches are mad, and people get emotional. Time will tell

The Copper Dial 17.06, unless I am having a crisis of memory I recall paying something like £1.1k to Ming for and they are listed with asking prices of £4.4k upwards on Chrono24. I believe many more of these were made and sold than for the Massenas. But let's see.The $30k deal (if true) I would imagine is someone who didn't get success at the lottery and will pay whatever it takes to get it in their collection and probably there aren't many of these people.Let's see tomorrow/friday as the US buyers will receive theirs first as the watches are shipped from the US - suspect some people 'won't bond' with their watches tomorrow and Chrono24 will be interesting....

Wow, that was quick. What was the vat charge I'm guessing around £370 depending on exchange rate used.

Strangely mine was £48. I'll see if they amend it or what value was declared on the watch. Strange.

That strap works really well with that, not what I'd have expected. Looks very nicely done.

The hands look to be really rather close in length for quick glance clarity though - it'll be interesting to know how it is in use.

Ok so for the £2.2k I paid for it it is nice. However I am acutely aware that it could be traded like for like for a BP 50 Fathoms or something like that. So question is would I rather have this or a 50 Fathoms if the price was identical?

I did start the thread with the title 'Free Money' and I suspect there's the answer. I'll hold on to it for a month to see where the market settles but whereas I had another unobtanium arrive yesterday (Kurono Chronograph 2) and when I saw it BNIB in packaging I thought to hell with resale that's stunning I'm wearing it, well I don't have the same sentiment here.

If you are planning on scalping the Ming, I'd try to be first seller rather than wait for prices to settle. You can always readjust your price if it doesn't sell.

I'd agree with that. I'd also take a better "head on" shot as the hands look odd - minute hand past 12, hour hand shy of 11.

Did they adjust the customs fee or did you only pay £20. Looks lovely I'm expecting the black too, what's the box etc.. like. The Kurono seems to have a more high end feel to the overall package. But I do really like the honeycomb dial on this and don't have a two hander.
