    Longitude discussed on R4 Now

The measurement of longitude is the subject of "In Our Time" today, including of course John Harrison. Repeated tonight at 2130.

I used to love listening to In Our Time on my way to see customers. Hardly catch it now.

It's noticeable that Dava Sobel's book does not make the suggested reading list...and that there are a couple of interesting 'Related Links'.

I must admit that I found her book to be very interesting.

So did I. However, I gather that, while it's a good read, the author's telling of the story does not match up with some of what historical research has established. Rather than being a 'lone genius' it would seem that he had some help, see this link to an older thread . That, IMO, does nothing to detract from the amazing story of his progress from woodwork to making H4.
