    Kitchen Makeover

What are your thoughts on kitchen makeovers, we have about 25 cabinet doors, worktops about 3 lengths of standard type and 3 extra cabinets. Are the costs over the top, or is it better to have a complete new kitchen fitted,

    Thanks.

What state are the cabinets in?
Are you happy with the current layout?
Do you need to change the appliances?
Do you want to re-do the flooring?
Are you going to replace the splashbacks?

The further you go with a refurb the more you might as well change the cabinets if the rest of the kitchen isn't in very good condition. Cost it up with DIY Kitchens & see how much more they would cost although obviously the labour would be more.

Ridiculous prices when we looked into the makeover 3 years ago.
Not much dearer to rip out and replace the whole lot, which we did.

Look on the net at firms that wrap the doors not paint
Itís quicker looks can be amazing

A colleague of mine had his small kitchen wrapped he did it himself looks frankly awesome

We used this company when we replaced our doors. All made to measure and the finish was good and has lasted well

We were happy with the layout too. I just ordered the new oven hob and worktops. I got a friend who is a chippy to cut and fit the worktops. It turned out ok and much more cost effective.

I checked out Hot Doors also Magic doors.

Iíve been quoted £11K to replace 26 doors with soft close hinges and handles, remove 3 shelving units and install new cupboards. Fit 3 lengths worktop with hob and fitted oven new sink and taps, new kick boards, plinth and top cupboard valance. Also 1 boiler cupboard.

I think itís a fair price, itíll be more than double that to rip out and start again.

Crikey I nearly choked on my cuppa
Do I presume they are quite high end door as even at £200 a door still leaves over £6k for the remainder

So did I when he priced the job. The quote isnít broken down. The installation of the worktops must be expensive. The price includes a small utility room too.

I would say the costs are over the top unless you are looking at high end materials.

I would be looking for a breakdown of the materials, labour and time expected time to do the job. If they canít or donít want to provide this detail, thereís a reason..

Iím going to get another price as a comparison, I just feel uncomfortable with the cost.

I donít blame you - Iím happy paying a self employed workman a fair days pay but it often materialises that your shelling out something like £500 a day- buried in the quote

Kitchen costs always seem mental to me - what do they make the doors and work surfaces out of, Titanium with gold inlays??

Lots of it going on at the momentÖ. Iíve had quotes vary by £45k for the work on my place (loft conversion + extension)

Throw in a cheeky quote and see if you can get away with it!

Iím planning on spending £8.5k all in on my kitchen including some nice appliancesÖ.

Could I be cheeky and ask you to show us some photos when itís finished please.
The next big project in my house will be a new kitchen so it would be nice to see how far 10K goes.

I have the kitchen company over tomorrow to check over the quote, I donít think he will budge on price. I will get another quote next week hopefully.
