The RRP vanishes on the Rolex site once the watch hits about £40k, nothing to do with the metal. I think the Platinum Daytona and DD40 start from about £60k but could be wrong.

Walk into an AD and ask to buy a SS sports watch;

‘Ah yes sir, I’ll add you to the list. You’re just behind the other sixteen hundred people that have expressed the same interest. Although, we’ll sell the next few to the three people that actually come in and spend proper money in our store. But lovely to meet you!’

Walk into an AD and ask to buy a platinum DD;

‘Yes, of course! Please take a seat whilst I prepare the paperwork. Would sir like Jeremy from the stock room to suck sir off whilst you wait?’

Very different. Or at least in my experience.
