Having been fortune in owning most of the models listed I think my advice would be to go for a very late 14060M. You have the 5 digit charm along with the benefits of a relatively new watch. Failing that I would likely opt for a late model 5513. They have the advantage of an acrylic crystal which is a great look and adds a lot of warmth to the dial. Good luck with your search.

I totally agree with you. I would definitely get a 4 liner too. I feel the 2 liners make the dial look sparse.

Been doing my internet research (passes the time) and am now trying to choose between a two line 14060M or a 14060. Was quite unoccupied by such thoughts 24hrs ago.

Bloody watches!

Seen a few 'NOS' examples that all seem to have emanated from the East. I'm not sure if they're polished to high heaven or whether they just tend to take better care of their watches.

I’ve owned both and preferred the tritium 14060 - but the difference is minimal between the later 14060s and early 14060M.

Thanks to you all for your thoughts and suggestions.
I appreciate that for the purists amongst us, a non date Submariner would be the obvious choice.
But if I am to try and replicate the one that I first owned, than it will have to be the date version.
Besides the BB58 which I purchased when they first came out 3 yrs ago to celebrate my 60th birthday, fulfils my no date timepiece.

I have owned them all (5-digits) and I still own SD and Sub Date.

Sub no-date 14060: Flat, feels definitely less substantial than date 16610

Sea-Dweller 16600: Thick, high, feels "narrow" due to smaller dial.

Sub date: To me it's the best. Flat, feels more substantial than no-date and actually wears better and bigger on a bigger wrist because the dial is larger and the presence is not as high as on SD.

Don't get me wrong, I love my SD but Sub date wears better.

I love the clean lines of my 14060 although one day I would like to try a really nice 16800 even though I’m not a cyclops fan..

That's perfect. Even has the correct serif flat 4.
