    Hoverboard advice and recommendations?

I'm thinking about getting my daughter a Hoverboard for her 10th birthday.

Has anyone tried one? Looking for advice and recommendations please.

Don't see nearly as many out on these self balancing scooters aka hoverboards cf the other more traditional shaped elec scooters, just an observation.

I've only seen one in the wild - looked pretty dangerous IMO.
    Cheers,

We bought my daughter one for the Xmas before last. She uses it very occasionally, certainly not enough to justify the purchase cost!

    Do they actually hover?

Nah it's a total 'con' in that sense, I'm a bit surprised they can call them this tbh, they got wheels and gyros... IF they actually hovered, well now you're talking.

I seem to recall some issues with fires so worth researching brands.

Okay I'm going off the idea!

This is very helpful, thanks for all your comments so far.

She already has a skateboard, any other ideas for presents?!

    Thanks all.

Most youngsters seem to have electric scooters rather than hoverboards nowadays.

At 10yo would probably get away with a small one on pavement.

Yes I did a lot of research before buying one for my 7 year old at Christmas. He mastered it in about 1/2 hour and I make him wear a helmet, gloves, long trousers etc.

This is the one to go for:
GYROOR Hoverboards for Kids, 6.5... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09H29HZ...p_mob_ap_share

Those were a few years back and well documented battery problems. Don’t think it is an issues these days, but certainly a factor in the search

They are a lot of fun.

My two Grandsons have them and we take them for a tear up around Kenley Aerodrome.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I’m just sad we are 2022 using the term hoverboard to talk about a clunky thing with a wheel that doesn’t actually hover. Of all the science-fiction ideas in movies of the 80s/90s, I wanted this to come true!

Regrettably it seems we're a tad short of Element 115.
