    Ralph Lauren jacket advice please?

    Hi all,

Looking at picking up a jacket. It’s between their Bayport and Twill Mockneck.

Anyone with any experience of them? Worried the Bayport will be too lightweight being unlined but prefer the ‘traditional’ collar.

    Cheers

Mockneck for me. I have the quilted Barracuda with the same collar and much prefer it with a t shirt or a shirt

Barracuda not on the website, perhaps the mockneck has replaced it?

Why RL particularly? The Harrington style is widely available across most brands so look further afield.

Gant do traditional Harrington styles. Farah? Hackett? A quick google search pulls up thousands.

It seems that they are one in the same, sold in some places as the Barracuda range and some as the Mock Neck

I like the flat collar much better than the wing collar personally, especially over a polo shirt/shirt with a different shaped collar.....

    Ralph Lauren jacket advice please?

I didn’t realise RL called their Harringtons Barracuda.

Aquascutum always used to make fantastic Harrington’s but their recent stuff is absolutely gash from a quality perspective.

Bet you’d get a vintage one for peanuts on eBay.

You could have a look at the version from Community Clothing

Full disclosure: I don't own one but I've got the raincoat and the peacoat and I am happy with both.

That is a really good price for a British made jacket. I may be getting one of those once my current jacket is end of life. I like the look of their peacoat too.

Orvis make a cracking Harrington style jacket, I’ve had my current blue one for years and it washes up good as new:totally recommended.

Carhartt really lost their way when they became Carhartt WIP in the UK/Europe. The quality is awful now.

I still buy their jeans as they're cheap and I haven't found a new brand/cut I like yet but I'd rather buy the Ralph or even just spend big money on Sunspel instead. I'd probably choose Blue Harbour over Carhartt for that jacket.

    Why bother with the pretenders?
Jus get yourself the real Harrington a baracuta g9.

You won’t regret it, and support a UK fashion brand.

Love the brand but crap website!

    Eg. What’s the difference between a standard G10 and a G10 Af?

Had mine for about 10 years or so and i still wear for days/nights out, when the weathwr permits!

I do like the look of the community ones and the material they use should be excellent too. A fraction of the price and look excellent value to be honest.
