I've had a few 170 and 710 cases, they're the best cases in my opinion, they wear really well with not much to pick between the two.

Accuracy will be dogs**t, lume will be pap, the bracelet will make you want to cry.

I'm not familiar with that dial but if it has a date window, don't get it. Don't get an Amfibia with a date, it's a huge PITA to set.

    But you still love 'em

Pretty much what he ^^^ said, although my two 710s are keeping to about +12 secs per day, which isn't that bad.

The stock bracelets are fit for the bin. Horrible things. But the solid link bracelets from Meranom are pretty good, and cheap. I usually flip between BC rubber and shark mesh.

I haven't had a 170 but like the look of them. The 710 is a similar cushion case.

The SEs from Meranom are a step up in quality over the standard models and worth the extra £s IMO.

In a nutshell, Amphibias go forever and have a charm about them that makes you keep buying.

Most of this. The newer solid link Vostok bracelets aren't that bad plus lume on the SE models is adequate. QC seems to have been pretty appalling as of late so don't be surprised if it stops working not long after you buy it. I love them.

I've had a couple of Vostock few years now and my experience for time keeping goes against the norm, as they've both been fine. The lume on mine may as well not be there.
Love them both and the design history behind them, including the wobbly crown.

I had a Vostoc years ago and it was biggest PoS I've ever owned. Felt like it was made of tin with a bracelet so sharp it could carve steak.

They are not great but kind of cool in the same way a Morris Minor / Austin Allegro is kind of cool. - if you had no choice... they are the best option.

You’re missing the point. They’re original crap, not homage copy crap.

I've got one. Looks are great, strap it comes on is bad, but 22mm lugs so a huge choice. Timekeeping is perfectly tolerable, maybe + a minute a week.

I've had a few. Mostly crap.
My first one had a cog come off inside the movement. Another didn't even run on arrival. The last one, which was a 710, had the lug holes so badly drilled you could see where they had almost gone all the way through on one lug.
If they sorted out a quick-set date and the lume I'd probably buy another.

Mine is a bit crap but I like it very much. A wonderful holiday watch.

Vostok are junk but you can regulate them to be accurate, at least in the short term.

I regulated a cheap model and recorded the timekeeping but nobody ever believes me lol.

£28 Hand Winding watch imported from Russia. Has 2414A movement - 17 jewels - 19800 beat rate.

I couldnt detect any time loss or gain over this period using an atomic watch to compare it to.

    Here were the recordings.

I've got 5 vostoks, I love them and they're great for taking your first steps in watch modding.
Luckily I've never had a problem with the movements but from what I see there have been a few reports lately.

The 170 is actually a 150 case that is brushed instead of polished. Also the lug holes have been repositioned just a bit. It's a cool case but with a few sharp edges.

Considering how much they cost they're actually pretty decent. You get a watch with military history, proven water resistance and toughness and a very very clever design. The way the caseback and the crystal are designed to work is brilliant.

Fully agreed. 70 USD for a watch with unique looks and opportunities to mod a bit is great. I brushed my case, changed crown and rotor. All very simple but nice to try on a cheaper watch.

The crown is also a brilliant design. Things other brands would push in marketing and charge extra for .

Snap! Plus the ‘crown’ on mine resembled the metal lid of a coke bottle, but less well made and using a lower grade material. I’ve since read up on the design and I can see the appeal - but I won’t be buying another after that first experience. I think I might still have it somewhere, this thread will probably have me searching the garage and loft now!

Ths latest models have stainless steel crowns and bezels. You can very easily change the crown and bezel in the older ones as well. Plus my 170549 came with metal movement holder instead of plastic like the older ones. Take that Tag Heuer 😄

I started with a 420 after reading a thread on here. The postman's literally just brought the parts for my eighth, a 170 case with a 750 "radio room" dial & a caseback from the Russian Antarctic research station.

I bought a Vostok a while ago and it was 0s/d out of the box.

Don't waste your money on a Rolex or Omega Chronometer.

Have you tried taking it off and giving it a good bang with your palm...this sometimes works. IF you got it from Meranom and it's under warranty, for me he's always been responsive to comms and will get it repaired, returned, it could take a couple of months especially currently. Twice I think he's returned the repaired watch with a scuba dude baseball cap, on the house.

Sadly I got it off eBay from Moscow last year. It was held in customs at Heathrow Langley for weeks, finally coming to me with import & customs duty payable.
Not sure with postage and associated costs and potential re-import duty it’s Worth it.
I took it to a jeweller/watch repair shop they said £50 to look at it.
Can’t bring myself to keep throwing money at it.
Yep tried banging it, sometimes a few ticks, one time half a day.

I'd say take the back of and blow it with air. Then close it, give it a good winding from the crown and see if it works.
A new movement is less than 50 pounds.

Vostok, like Rolex, are 1950s legacy designs. Something akin to Morgan sports cars. Frozen in time but adorable.

The date is not really an issue, if you had basic watches in the 60’s & early 70’s they were exactly the same. Still able to fudge as we did back then. Certainly would not mark them down on that point.
