Wondering if anyone works in a Seat / VW Group dealer can help me? Ultimately I need a new part for my good ladies car and it's a minefield in terms of getting any sense out of anyone.
There is a common fault on the 2013 onwards 2.0tFSI engine used in the Golf R / GTI / Leon Cupra / Octavia VRS etc etc. Basically there is a thermostat and water pump housing, the housing is made of plastic (don't even get me started) and the pump is metal and it bolts to the block. VWG are up to about the 6th variant of this housing / pump due to them being hugely unreliable!! My wife has a 2015 Leon Cupra - full service history etc etc and only 38,000 miles. I appreciate the car is 6 years old however it is relatively low mileage, FSSH from new and this is a known fault or issue.
I'm looking for either some guidance as to whether Seat / VWG ever support the replacement cost when out of warranty? Or the supply of the part at trade prices through a TZUK member if they are able to leverage a saving?? Seat want £1400 to do the job.
I appreciate it is hardly first world problems and that the car is 6 years old but the thermostat housing is circa £300 + 4 hours labour to fit............. it literally is a massive pile of crap, why do they have to make things so bloody complex. Anyway, enough moaning, can anybody in the motor trade help in terms of sourcing one so we can get the job done please?

It's a really weird setup and whilst belt driven, it is not driven by the timing belt, its driven by an auxiliary shaft at the opposite side of the engine to the timing chain / belt!! Honestly, you should see what a crapper of a job it is. Inlet manifold off, intercooler pipes all off, half the engine sodding removed to change a piece of plastic....... awful design. Hence the cry for help to try and source one more reasonably. Worse still is that me and my 'wife' are separating so trying to do the right thing and not see her stuck for transport whilst also not sp*nking a wad of my cash on it!!!Originally Posted by WORKSIMON

I had an Indy change my water pump/ cam belt and ancillary drive belt.£600.00 all in.
This sounds as though it's the EA888 engine. I had the same issue on my previous Golf, a GTI, which was covered under the extended warranty which I had the foresight to take out.
The cams are chain-driven, so it's a case of stripping down the end of the engine with the cam chains in order to get to the coolant pump, and replace the thermostat cover, and it's a classic case of a manufacturer making a saving of a Euro or two in the manufacture of the car, only for the customer to be forced to pick up the pieces a few years down the line.
I took out the VW extended warranty on my Golf R as well, because it has the same basic engine. Sorry, OP, there doesn't appear to be a cheap alternative to a large bill, other than topping up the coolant regularly and keeping your fingers crossed.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

See if u can find a vw/Skoda specialist, I had a golf 1.4 tsi with a similar convoluted set up mine was coming up to 80000 miles and vw uk said the cambelt would last the life of the car and the dealer said don’t leave it any longer than 100000 miles wouldn’t touch modern vw group crap with a bargepole now
Mine went on my 14 plate Golf Gti (about 2 years ago now having done 20k miles) a mate of mine (who owns a local independent garage) did it for about 500 quid,I cant remember the exact price but around that, he said they are a bit of a nightmare to do due to the amount of stuff to strip. Good luck.
I can put you in contact with a pair of mates who own a VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat garage. They know their stuff and will without doubt be able to help and advise you.
