Today at the boot sale- Interesting SAK.

First one of the year, wow, really really busy, never seen so many people out.
A few nice finds, manual wind Mosler running but a little bit fast, nice flared lugs and a decent size at 38mm, one for the wife with a nice strap.
Smiths Empire pocket watch, running well but sadly the seconds hand doesn't move, needs a new glass but not bad.
A G-Shock for the lad, need a battery and strap witch I have on order.
The SAK, 11 blades, pretty grubby but in good condition, i think this has some age to it, from what i can make out with some googling, the main blade markings date it from 1957 to 1973, the corkscrew has a groove down the screw which I haven't seen before and the loop would have been a full width one but sadly broken off, I don't know how to id the model of this either, anyone know how to do that? there is a really odd blade, full length, but really thin and it has a file down the bottom edge, there is a regular file too. It needs a scissor spring but thats easy enough to get. Its a deep burgundy red, the newer ones I have are a brighter red.
If anyone has any more information or where I can get it that would be great.
    Cheers.
    Jase

The long tool is simply called 'long nail file', a really interesting design.
The channel down the worm of the corkscrew is to reduce binding in the cork (I think it was Saint Just of this forum who told me that on another forum, years ago!). It's on my modern ones too. Edit: my idea of modern is now getting rather old!

No idea on age, but the Victoria stamp suggests quite an oldie.

Thanks, Im looking forward to cleaning it up, after reading up, i think the groove on the corkscrew was discontinued in the early 90s.

Gosh yes, looks like you're correct about the groove - what I thought was recent is of course actually not recent now!

Is that a genuine Bonklip bracelet on the Mosler?

Sadly not Si, I did get a tiny bit excited when I saw it but that quickly evaporated 😁

    Thanks Neil.

The fish scaler should help you identify the model.
Yes, time flies regarding groove in corkscrew. A good idea that didn’t really work at all.

Nice one Jase, decent little haul.
I've got to clear out the junk in the spare room so I went out to a couple this morning just as a recce for next week when I'll probably stand one. Like you said, crazy busy! Not quite the busiest I've seen for sellers, but certainly for buyers.
I bought nothing bar a few old lego sets (spent the past 2 hours disassembling and cleaning them ready for my little lad to build).
The quality in general this week seemed very very poor, and maybe 50% of the main boot sale was made up of amateur dealers flogging swwets, plants, out of date food, fake clothes and pound shop quality toys. There were a few stalls I'd have taken straight to the tip (sellers included).
I'm a glutton for punishment though, so I'll be back.

Today at the boot sale- Interesting SAK.

Clip-point small blade and bail, so before 1968/69? Age 1957 to 1969. The type of punch is significant in dating it, I'm not sure the details, but reckon it puts it earlier in the 57-69 range.

Possibly an early Fischermesser. Some corkscrew, some Phillips, some metal file, some wood saw. I think later the toolset became more standard and a differentiation between Fisherman and Angler arose.

I can't offer definitive help on the SAK but I have one with almost the same tools, save for the long file and spike by the corkscrew. Instead, mine has a short bladed spike and a screwdriver. The corkscrew is also grooved and the markings on the main blade are the same. It's branded 'Camping' and I am pretty sure I bought it in the early seventies.

One more idea maybe: If you break any tool, Victorinox will repair it with whatever equivalent is current at the time of repair.

No worries - I've just corrected my post to say 'I can't offer definitive advice...' auto-correct messing things up, as usual!

I think that’s an early Ranger. I would think very collectible.

What I meant was that it was possible that the corkscrew (for example) had been replaced.

I posted the SAK on a SAK forum and its been confirmed as a pre 68 ( when the full width bail loop was discontinued ) and is a Champion model A, which means it has the corkscrew as posed to the B which had a Philips screwdriver. Pretty cool to find out its older than me!

Ah well if you had shown us the wood saw, we watch collectors would have got it. Don’t go down the SAK rabbit hole in no time you’ll have drawers full of pristine SAKs, every colour, every tool, never to be used.
