Random techie question about forum software

Sorry if this is a completely random post to put on a watch forum, but here goes:

Looking to set up a test forum (nothing to do with watches) which is really a proof of concept for an association and may only last for a few weeks.

Been doing lots of research, but simply put, can anyone suggest a cheap temporary hosting solution along with a good free bulletin board software? I reasonably techie so any suggestions welcome.

Edit: if you dig around on YouTube it looks like digital ocean have a direct install model for discourse
