Yes I'm aware of that thanks. I believe it's the British title that is being referred to.

Something to do with Denmark and Greece being his original Royal prince title. Maybe to differentiate.?

When Philip married Liz he had to renounce his Greek and Danish titles so he could become Duke of Edinburgh.

This was the statement issued from the Palace February 1957:

The Queen has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm bearing date 22nd February, 1957, to give and grant unto His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, K.G., K.T., G.B.E., the style and titular dignity of a Prince of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Whitehall.
The Queen has been pleased to declare her will and pleasure that His 'Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh shall henceforth be known as His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

This is the way to do it, 18 year old converted Land Rover, fitted out and painted pretty much to the Dukes specifications. Class.

What a great funeral service, everything was just so ‘right’ about it I thought.

Yes all very slick and fitting for the man.

Although, not nice to see the Queen sat alone, pretty cruel. Also some fat pig got topless and tried to disturb proceedings, very strange.

'Operation Forth Bridge' had been in the planning for while - today was precise and appropriate.

Descent I think you were aiming for there, decent means good, OK, fine.

Unless that was a joke aimed at the Septics and their command of English.

Found myself thinking today that as a Jr naval officer he would have memories of British capital ships being sunk and he might be on the next one. Hood, Prince of Wales, Repulse, Glorious, Ark Royal. Historical to me but v.real to him. Some astounding changes in his lifetime, not always for the better.

I thought the four singers were superb and so moving, as well as the trumpeters at the end.

Didn't see any of it as of no interest but that is ridiculous if the queen had to sit herself.
A bit of humanity in amongst this shit would have been appropriate.
Lizzy probably asked for it to be like that but it would be nice to see the human touch.

I personally think she did the right thing. Having experienced a COVID funeral myself, it wasn’t easy, but important to know we are “all” in this together. A message I’m sure our Queen wanted to convey.

    For once I agree.

I remember visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh, Prince Phillips cabin was very plain, nothing fancy at all. Said a lot about the man I believe.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Quite, I wonder what the other poster would have been saying if the rules were bent for her to sit with members of another household?
I also experienced a covid funeral last summer, when there were ten of us only allowed and it all had to be outside, very hard, so it was gratifying to see the current rules being adhered to by HRH.

It was sad seeing the Queen sitting alone - but quite symbolic and I don’t think it was totally accidental. The huge irony of that image being juxtaposed with large crowds of the public gathering to pay respects wasn’t lost on me though

The ceremony was without doubt 100% how he would have wanted it, apart from the family not being able to be together in public.
I like many others, certainly felt for Her Majesty, and my heart went out to her.
And full respect for her and the family for following the lockdown regulations. It certainly sent out a very strong message that "We are all in it together"

I hope those negative posters in this thread have changed their opinion of Prince Phillip for the better, given all the coverage of what a remarkable man he was and what he achieved in his very long service to his adopted country.

    Enjoyed looking at those, thanks.

WRT the service, I received several comments from friends overseas expressing their admiration for the precision of the British military deportment: 'No-one else does it as good as you British' is a fair summation of their comments.

    Well done to everyone involved.

I'm struck by how many people are saying 'I didn't know he'd done so much "

...which is entirely because the UK media who spent the last few weeks lionising him are the same pricks who spent 70-odd years trying to destroy him.
