Thread: Thoughts on Seiko Sumo chronograph?

    Thoughts on Seiko Sumo chronograph?

Been mulling one of these over for a fair while and am keen for opinions from any owners or some one that has actually seen one.
Quite like the idea of a solar chronograph and the blue face on rubber/silicon strap looks very appealing.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen one these before for some reason. I really like it, apart from the date clipping an hour marker for some unknown reason.

Sorry no help to you OP.

I have virtually the same watch but not the Sumo, mine is a Save the Ocean. I like the colour combo.

I got it in a sale from Ernest Jones for £212.50, which I think was a really good bargain. They are great grab and go watches. I have several of the Seiko Solar range and I really do like them. Very comfortable, nice strap, wears well.

Such a strange design decision... did they think the watch looked to boring and decide to jazz it up a bit?

Otherwise it's a good looking watch, and undoubtedly a solid performer

Isn't that exactly the solar chrono but in different colours?

    Just doesn’t make sense.

Very similar but the case is different. Also handset and sub dial hands and markings. It doesn’t have the aforementioned strange date position either.

    Dunno man...
Looks just like mine, date and case, but black and blue

Ah, I was on about the one in the OPs link, ignore me.

I’ve now taken delivery of the Sumo chronograph and am very pleased with it.
The movement is a different calibre to the ones shown in the above threads, in that it has the addition of a power reserve indicator on the lower subdial.
The watch seems pretty bullet proof. The case is superbly made, everything lines up and the sapphire crystal is a welcome addition. For me its the perfect beater.

    .
I’d seen these and always assumed they had the same movement as the other divers chronos from seiko. Just looked up the manual and seen it still stops running automatically at 60 minutes though. Just wish they could make a solar chrono that could time longer than that.

Congratulations on the new watch, hope you enjoy it much.

Yes, I see that feature on the dial, somewhat puzzling on a solar (one of mine is 6 or so years old and hasn't skipped a beat) so I'd be interested to see if it ever goes off showing as being 'Full'!

I’m not sure I would ever have noticed that had you not mentioned it, but how you have I’ll probably never un-see it. A bit strange! Really like the black dial version but small things like that would bug me I think!

Fraser Hart also have the prospect king turtle black dial which I like the look of (and is probably slightly more versatile being a bit dressier than the chrono).
